Special interest, lobbyist and campaign finance reform. Reverse citizens united. The government should serve the people, not corporations on the backs of people

How about just getting Glass-Steagall back in place? Is that even possible? It would protect so so many Americans in the so-called 99% that I think it should have bipartisan support.

I mean, *Clinton*, the evil liberal, repealed G-S.

But I'm with you on what would be best.

Me too. Break up the mega-banks, or at least putting Glass-Steagall back into place, is #1 on my list. It would help so many people in this country.

It's time for President Obama to channel his inner Teddy Roosevelt for the 21st Century.....

    Couldn't agree more.

I know it'll never happen, but should have a license to have kids. Minimum age requirement, education and proof that you'll be able to support them.

I manage a business which employes quite a few young immigrant females. By the age of 20 some of these chicks have three kids and don't give a damn about their job. Their attitude is I'll just collect unemployment or whatever other ways there are to leech off the government.

I'm curious to hear the Republican rationale for *not* supporting it. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

If you are too big to fail, than you are too big. No question about it. I wish some of these banks had been chopped into pieces (I'm looking at you BOA and Citi).

Or just stop socializing their losses with taxpayer backing, and let them sink or swim on their own

How do you think they got so big to begin with? They took any and all comers and let the government assume all the risk.

No such thing as too big to fail, anything that deserves to fail should be allowed to.

Yes, if a bank like Chase fails, it will take down the economy with it, so yes it would be great to have double digit unemployment again, you have to bail these types of banks out under the current system.

Yes this is what all the bankers tell us, the sky will fall if we don't give them our money. Such a convenient argument.

Outlaw all bailouts, guaranteed loans, and subsidies. You'd find out real quick who was just getting rich off the taxpayer dime. What happens when GM/Chrysler inevitably need another bailout?

This by the way, is how the GOP can get back to power. So much cronyism between corporations and government. So easy to point out.

Apparently right after Lehman closed, we were at that point, the reactions could taking down the whole banking sector, so you would just rather let all the banking and insurance industry go down no matter what the consequences are?

Man, I know 4 years is forever. I voted for the other guy but love to see America energized. So, Barry keep us excited. Keep us hungry. After seeing reactions to your re-election I think you've got it in you.

In hindsight I can't see another candidate energizing the populous.

I would be very happy with this, if we cannot tackle any sort of banking reform. I think it's second on my list of priorities.

Personally, the fiscal cliff issue, while scary, is a lower priority because it's effect would ultimately only last 6-24 months. Banking issues, and longer term reform of budgeting/taxes cast much longer shadows.

Good thread, folks. Even bigtexxx's joke was pretty funny.
