"Welcome to the NBA," said Mihm to a suddenly dejected Najera after having his fourth shot blocked by the Texas Longhorn graduate. "Don't they get ESPN in Big-D?"

    Just kidding.

    SoonRockStro,

How can you say that Najera will be fifth overall in ROY? He's played in a few summer league games. I know you love the guy, but come on, your being a little too subjective right now.

I think it's funny how you say numbers lie, but you're saying Najera is the best because of his awesome numbers!! Of course if you're going to rate a player because of their awesome numbers you better get some money on Dan Langhi.. his college numbers were damned good!!

And now that he's had a big revue game I guess that puts him in you rookie of the year running.....

My take on Najera is that he is a "smart" player who knows the game. I also believe a lot of people have underestimated him and they will soon find out. He won't be the ROY because Don Nelson is not going to give him those type of minutes but in time he will be a solid contributor on "O" and he will rebound as well. What he lacks in athletic ability he will make up with heart, intensity and hustle.

At first I wish the Rockets had kept him, but after tonight I really did like Langhi. I just hope he can be half as consistent as he was tonight because that will open up the floor for Cutino and Steve.

I know it's a rediculous statement, but I just got that feeling about Eduardo. He was highly underrated and should have gone in the top 20 atleast. Teams, including the Rockets, will kick themselves for not taking this guy or for trading him for whatever reason. He more than held his own against Fizer and Mihm and not even looking at his great numbers he dominated games playing out of position at the 4. He has always been a 3 and now he is back to his original spot. Donnie Nelson said that all his rookies were unimpressive in their summer league except one, Eduardo. He will probably start for Dallas or be their first option off the bench because the Dallas coached like his experience and passion for the game. If nothing else he is a workaholic. Looking at some of the players perceived to have no skills that came in a played like he does I would have to think he is a Dennis Rodman with an offensive game. I seriously think put all these things together and he could be just as good if not better than say a Toni Kukoc in his prime. I have every reason to believe that he is as good as the other guys in my top 5. BTW, it was between him and Mihm for the fifth spot but I went with Eduardo because of the reasons above. Mihm definitely has a shot though. And another thing, a player with skills who got overlooked before in the draft was Mark Jackson selected by the Knicks in the mid first round because nobody thought he was that good. Well he went on to win the ROY that year. Same thing could happen to El Hoopo this year. Granted, it would be much more surprising.

    1) Whoa Nellie. I think its admirable you are supporting Najera, but lets be realistic here. Najera will not start for Dallas. He will be something more like the 9 - 10th man on the bench. A tough role player, but not the first option off the bench.

    2) Najera will not contend for the ROY. Mihm might, if he gets the playing time. But knowing Cleveland's system, I would projecct he'll only play 22 - 27 minutes a game.

    3) I also feel it is folly to compare Najera to Mark Jackson. Remember, when Jackson was drafted, teams prostrated themselves at the "Altar of the Big Man" by selecting much less talented stiffs in front of really good players. The problem still exists today, but not anywhere as serious as it was back then(Now of course, teams offer tithes to the "Church of the Upside")

Who would've thought Don Nelson would pass up Olumide Oyedeji not once, not twice, but thrice?

That's pretty funny. You might want to take a look at the Dallas roster. Their deepest position is SF. Finley, Nowitzki, Ceballos and John Wallace will all get minutes at SF.

Also, Mark Cuban wants Dallas to improve quickly. You don't do that by bringing in 4 rookies in a single year. Remember Dallas will have 3 first rounders with guarenteed deals on the roster next year. Najera is going to be lucky to make the roster.

My best guess is that Najera mysteriously develops back spasms and is on IR for most of the year.

I think he will crack the roster, but not play too much his first year. I know how high Dallas was on getting him, so I doubt they will keep him on IR all year. Hard to say though, when speaking of Nellie and crew.

But I agree aelliott, Dallas is deep at SF, and Greg Buckner, if he resigns, which I have heard nothing about, then you really have a minute crunch at SF. He played some minutes there at times too, in addition to Ceballos, Nowitzki, Finley, and now Wallace and Harvey are in town as well. The minutes for Najera will be miniscule at best.
