Two years into the league and he's already a bust? Boki is the perfect player for an expansion franchise. He cost minimal money, and has upside. Here's someone who didn't play his first year because Rudy wanted to bring him along slowly. Only to fall victim a switch in coaching, a coach which likes a short bench and has a strong veteran bias. You're right. Boki's not worth $2.3 mil the way he's playing right now. But where can you spend the money on anyway? They're certainly not going to get anyone better with the money. And there is potential in the kid. That potential alone is worth $2.3 mil when there's no way you can spend the money on anything else.
2.3 is too much for boki to make. les will never do it. look at jason collier. he showed the same flashes. he would even be a nice fit for us right now... a 7ft pf/c who can shoot and board. les woudn't pay to extend his contract. he wont pay for boki either. i think we will re-sign padgett for half the price of what boki would cost.
I think Nachbar will be protected. I don't like Kayman's view of cheap. I see it this way: the Bobcats can only take one Rocket; taking Nachbar will have next to no effect on our salary cap. If they'll take someone who makes more money on more years, we'll be better off, even if we have to pay something for them to do it. My first choice is still Weatherspoon and then Mo Taylor. Given the expense, these might be too ambitious. Perhaps Pike should be the sacrifice. Even though I think Nachbar will be protected, I'm unsure whether we'll pick up his option. $2.3 million is more than he's worth now, but it is only one year and we'll get restrictions on his free agency after that. And, we won't have the same salary crunch that we had last offseason. I guess I tend to think we'll pick up the option unless JVG has given up on him entirely, which doesn't seem to be the case.
Give him time as Kings did on Peja. Think about this, 3 years later we might have Yao dominate inside and a Peja like shoter outside.
Wow, that was racist, imagine something like this said the other way around, you would have gotten kicked out of this website. And i'm not even white. JMO though.
Agree with you and RikQuik. The prior examples are flawed. Not Boki's fault Stephen Jackson was too stupid to take the 3.3 mil/yr to stay with the world champions. As for JJ, his contract is skewed because of his age, and thus you can't rely on him long-term, thereby reducing his value. Part of the reason I felt we should have kept Posey was this long-term value. Excellent riposte btw, DaDa.
Bingo. Actually, whomever we protect will have no effect on our salary cap. We are going to be over it for the next few years, regardless of what we do. And with probably no luxury tax next year, I would rather we protect MoT (our only low post offense off the bench) than give him away for nothing (so long as I am not signing his paychecks, which I am not). I say we protect the top 8 talents we have, regardless of salary. As to Boki, I would consider him a top 8 talent on this team, even if not currently a top 8 player, based upon outside potential. So let's protect him.
