I think when a segment of the population largely feels that a party has abandoned them, that party isn't going to get their vote. Plus, there is a very palpable feeling in many segments of America that the Republican party is hostile towards minorities. See Reagan and Apartheid, see Trent Lott, see John Ashcroft's appointment, see Rush Limbaugh, see Bush and James Byrd in Texas, etc. What part of the Republican party platform is designed to attract black voters? It's not civil rights, it's not inner city schools, it's not Affirmative Action, it's not college student loans, it's not poverty, and it's definitely not economic justice in the vision of Martin Luther King. So what is it?
