I get the feeling that the PRC is getting tired of NK. Consider that the PRC is going along with sanctions and publicly criticizing NK behavior. There also have been friction before between the two leaders and Kim Jong Il had at times chided the PRC's lack of dedication to Socialism. SK is also one of the biggest trading partners with the PRC and relations between the two generally seem good. While there may be many in PRC who still see NK as a buffer I am guessing if NK causes more problems that the PRC would start looking to a way to ease a transition. Keep in mind the Chinese value stability and they don't want to see an NK collapse because that would threaten regional stability as refugees flood across the border and SK has to deal with trying to rehabilitate NK. If it is clear that the NK regime is a far greater threat to stability then PRC policy might change.

Given that there is a decent amount of anti-American sentiment in SK from the military dictatorship and a lot of anti-Japanese sentiment there is no guarantee a united Korea will just be a stepping stone for the US and Japan into China.

On the other hand, my brothers were in S Korea and they said every one is cool and that this is all being blown way out of proportion. They said the word on the street is NK is doing this to force others into providing them with aid, as they have done in the past.

North Korea is just asking for it -- they do not want what we have to give them.

Shock and Awe was a decade ago.... I can only imagine what we could do today.

All I know is: Where I'm from, if you walk around talking as much shat as NK does, you'll get your ass kicked real quick. NK needs to STFU, because they ain't bout that life.

All it's going to take is one miscalculation and hell is going to break loose. I know Kim Jong Un is just trying to win support from his people, but at this rate he's going to get his country destroyed.

    N. Korea approves nuclear strike on US
    (AFP) – 21 minutes ago
SEOUL — The North Korean army said Thursday it had final approval to launch "merciless" military strikes on the United States, involving the possible use of "cutting-edge" nuclear weapons.
In a statement published by the official KCNA news agency, the General Staff of the Korean People's Army (KPA) said it was formally informing Washington that reckless US threats would be "smashed by... cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means".
"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified," the statement said.
"The US had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation," it added.
North Korea had threatened a "pre-emptive" nuclear strike against the United States a month ago, and last week the supreme army command ordered its strategic rocket units to combat status for strikes on the US mainland and US bases in Guam and Hawaii.
"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," Thursday's statement said, adding that a war could break out on the Korean peninsula "today or tomorrow".
"In view of this situation, the KPA General Staff in charge of all operations will take powerful practical military counteractions in succession," it said.
Despite a successful long-range rocket launch in December, most experts believe North Korea is years from developing a genuine inter-continental ballistic missile that could strike the mainland United States.
Hawaii and Guam would also be outside the range of its medium-range missiles, which would be capable, however, of striking US bases in South Korea and Japan.
The army statement said responsibility for the current crisis "entirely rests" with the United States, citing the participation of nuclear-capable US B-52s and B-2 stealth bombers in ongoing joint military drills with South Korea.
"Never has the whole Korean peninsula been exposed to such danger of a nuclear war as today," it added.

It's a good thing that I'm not in charge of anything. IMO, that kind of rhetoric is beyond unacceptable from a soverein nation.

It's silly I agree, but every country does that. Maybe not quite the way the North Koreans say it, but almost every country does that.

Exactly what is the reason that N. Korea wants to destroy us? I can't identify the problem. Did we ship Chrysler products over there? Tainted horse meat? What?

I really don't know who looks stupider and more manipulative. N. Korea making comic book silly threats or major US officials and media types breathlessly acting like there is really a threat to us by the bumbling N. Koreans.
