In order to be a myth, however, there has to be a fact (or strong evidence) to disprove the supposed myth. In effect, he was claiming that I was passing off personal opinion as factual information. Surely you can see that. In response, I was making reference to the many situations in which Bush supporters have "guaranteed" such things at Mario being a bust, Reggie being a legend, the Texans having the first pick of the 2007 draft... etc. It's the same principle as what he directed to me... thus the post.
cause the Lakers had "showtime" players like Magic, Worthy, Kareem. The fact that those showtime players led to winning made them even more prominant in the media.
I don't know much about football, but after the end of the college season, the top prospects were Bush, Leinhart, Young and D something OL. In fact, if I remember correctly, Bush has been the best prospect for the last two years and being talked about the best in many years. Mario just became one of the top picks after his freakish workout. So, don't tell me that he is a better prospect than Bush. Bush was the best and surest thing in this draft. Mario may turn out becoming better than Bush, but saying Mario is better than Bush at this point is a nonsense.
"He won't do well with our offensive line" Davis managed to do quite well despite this. And we are drafting/signing a better line anyway. Btw, Reggie Bush won the heisman trophy in case you didn't know. Nice try...
So Reggie is now in Kobe class? Reggie is closer to Warrick Dunn than Kobe. Can we please stop these nonsense comparims to MJ, Lebron and Kobe? Any back that caries the ball only 15-17 times with 2-3 receptions sprinkled is not worth the #1 pick. I still firmly believe that Reg will be exposed in the NFL. Everyone is trying to be politically correct on TV and say all the right things about Reg. I wont. I dare say that Reg will look overpaid in a couple of years. We will see - I am so glad that he is not our problem now. Oh also, it is very likely the guy has foul character (more to come on that soon from MM and LL).
As long as the Texans win games nobody will say anything. Besides Reggie Bush played in a loaded offense with one of the best offensive lines in college football. It will be interesting to see how he does in mediocre NO team. Personally I dont care who they drafted as long as they can win some games. If they dont however and if Reggie Bush pans out as the next best thing since sliced bread then todays decision will look stupid no matter how good Mario Williams turns out to be. So here's to hoping that the TExans beat the living crap out of the Dallas BUMBOYS.
Okay I see you point. Reggie in terms of buzz and electricity would almost definitely equal or rival Kobe or LeBron. I must add as well that like every other recreational drug that gives "buzz", the electricity they generate within us eventually go away and then we realize that we are not "king of the jungle".
I don't know when the workouts were, but Mario was pretty consistently ranked no lower than 5th - usually going to Green Bay, where there was a need. At some point a month or two ago, his rankings began to move up. He was 2nd in ESPN's final mock, SI's final mock, etc., with constant comparisons to Julius Pepper. I've only watched USC play a full game once - and that was the national title game, where even USC's coaches had lost confidence in Bush to be that every down back. Still, he was clearly the surer bet as graded by most. But to say either will be better than the other at this point is nonsense.
Mock drafts are getting better each year. I suspect most of the movement up and down in mocks is based on the media finding out who NFL teams are looking at. I don't know whether Bush, Mario, or Young is the better player, but I prefer Mario over Bush. It is not like the Texans selected Whitner.
The Texans weren't lying (obviously) when they said they were seriously considering Mario at #1, I didn't buy into that at all. But if you have Mario and Bush rated equally as high (as many other teams did as well), you have to start looking at intangibles like need, playing time, and even money. I've said all along that Kubiak's system doesn't require stud RBs. I think that is something that really affected the Texans decision. Our defense was a joke, Mario has the chance of affecting the game 60-70 times per game. We had ZERO pressure on opposing QBs last season, Mario changes that instantly.
yes he makes that defense better on the run and the pass. yes, i'm tired of QBs having the world of time to throw the ball and make themselves peyton manning for a day. I remember Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Rams. He got like 375 yds passing and he was just on fire. but, he had years to throw the ball b/c of the lack of pass rush. Yes, we made the HARVARD QB look really smart (in football sense)
