Yes, they will. A lot of teams would love to rent Paul for 2 years, even if he's unhappy. And if Paul actually goes to a playoff team, he's probably not going to be unhappy, even if he has little intention of staying. He's frustrated because New Orleans has had one good season and one mediocre season in the 5 years he's been in the league and they don't show signs of improving. If he were traded to a consistently good team, he'd at least be content to serve out the remainder of his contract there. And lets be honest, a ****ty team isn't likely to be in position to trade for Paul anyway. Not from a winning standpoint and not from an assets standpoint.
I'll amend to say the OP is a little bit right. Paul's dissatisfaction with New Orleans will discourage other teams that are far from contending from making a deal. But, there's probably a dozen teams that could legitimately say they can contend with Paul in their lineup (provided he didn't cost too much). I think people make too much of this rule of thumb. If New Orleans does trade Paul, they will go to a full rebuild mode and they're window of contention is pushed back at least several years. Meanwhile, Houston's window of contention would be immediate and would close before New Orleans starts caring about who their challengers are for the trophy. So, why not do the deal?
Lakers went and got Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown after Kobe went public. So unless NO has some black magic up its sleeve, Paul will be traded. Like I said before, its a lose-lose situation if NO doesn't trade him. And you still haven't refuted that Paul can shoot down any trade by threatening to not resign with them.
No they won't. This is a business, no one wants to hire an employee that doesn't want to work with you.
So you really couldn't answer my question? You think he would risk a max contract by playing unhappy for 2 years?
Because if I'm NO I would rather let Paul's contract expire and earn the cap space than get a bunch of junk in return because he wants to go to one of "his" teams.
Cap space is meaningless if you can't sign anyone Look at what cap space did for NJ this offseason. Look at what would have happened to us if we didn't trade Tmac and instead chose to let him expire. There's nothing to be gained by simply letting someone expire. Otherwise Toronto would have let Bosh walk instead of doing a last minute SnT deal for Miami's 2 picks.
C P has say where he goes cuz he free man, he not slave. He no has say where he gets paid, however! You get?
Besides, those oyher three teams can get him if they anted. Theres already word out that NY is willing to trade everyone outside of Amare to get him. Dallas has a chance to get him as well as Orlando and Boston. We may still have the assets and draft picks that NO may want which is the only positive that we have to hold on to.
But who says he's going to be uncontent with any team other than the few he's listed? Most teams looking to trade for Paul are going to have to look at him as a 2 year rental. If a team sucks and they're not already in a position to contend, they're not going to be in a position to contend after trading for Paul. So there would be no point in them trying to pursue a deal. The teams that would be willing to take him only as a two year rental would be teams already in position to contend and are looking for that final piece. Those teams are going to win. And that's what Paul wants. He may not want to re-sign with some of those teams after two years, but he's certainly not going to go to a winning team and be a disgruntled cancer either. The market is larger than you think. Basically, any team that would be willing to take Paul only as a 2 year rental with no guarantee of him re-signing, Paul would be willing to play out his current contract with.
I don't see how. 2 years is a long time. WINNING cures a lot. Trying to tell me that a trade to, lets say, the Blazers, winning a ton wouldn't make him happy? Look at the teams he said: Knicks = would be a FORCE with him and Amare Lakers = no comment needed Magic = ^^^^ If he was told "hey we're sending you to the Celtics", he's gonna say "OH HELL NO"? Believe what you want, but this is about winning. He'd welcome a trade to the f'n clippers if he was guaranteed to WIN.
All this talk of having him for a 2 year rental means nothing. What everyone seems to be forgetting is that in order to get Paul, we more than likely would have to take Okafor as well. So although we may get Paul for 2 years(personally i think he'll resign after a championship or two) we would still have Okafor. We should be able to find a third legit point by the time those 2 years are up.
Paul may come here with the intention of not resigning, but i guarantee that will change immediately once the winning starts. You have to see the winning potential that comes with Paul being on this current Rockets squad.
The heart wants want the heart wants. We saw that Bosh wanted to go to Miami all along, there was NO other option for him despite all the suitors that were after him. Paul wants to be on a legit contender, not just go to a treadmill playoff team. Thats why its only the Knicks, Magic, and Lakers on that list. 2 years of sticking with a franchise you didn't really want to go to in the first place will not change your mind about resigning there. The reason the Knicks are on it is because Paul knows Carmelo is counting the days until he joins them.
Hey, how did that work out in Cleveland with Lebron? I mean they had the best record in the league these last 2 years and made the finals once....and...well.... DD
