I have all the specifics in a book somewhere. studied a lot about it in a business related course last year.. you actually end up using a method that leaves you with two letters.. making their 4 dif personality types..
Famous INTPs: Socrates Rene Descartes Blaise Pascal Sir Isaac Newton U.S. Presidents: James Madison John Quincy Adams John Tyler Dwight D. Eisenhower Gerald Ford William Harvey (pioneer in human physiology) C. G. Jung, (Freudian defector, author of Psychological Types, etc.) William James Albert Einstein Tom Foley (Speaker of the House--U.S. House of Representatives) Henri Mancini Bob Newhart Jeff Bingaman, U.S. Senator (D.--NM) Rick Moranis (Honey, I Shrunk The Kids) Midori Ito (ice skater, Olympic silver medalist) Tiger Woods
More on the two letter thing I was talking about.. thats how you actually find "temperaments" It works like this.. if the 2nd letter you have in your 4 letters is a S you then either add the J or P depending what your 4th letter is.. example ESTP would be SP If the 2nd letter is a N you then move to the third letter to get either a T or F. Meaning if it is ENFJ you have NF. From what we learned in class.... an NF has a quest for identifiy with their style being a catalyst... meanwhile their achillies heel is having guilt... an NT (which I am) has a quest for competency with a visionary style and an achillies heel of not being able to put up with incompetence.. a SJ has a quest for belonging to meaningful institutions.. with a style of stabilzer or traditionalist.. their achilles heel is not being able to put up with dissary or disorganization... an SP has a quest for action with a style of trouble shooter/negotiator... his achillies heel is not being able to put up with routine or inactivity... this is all part of the Keirsey's 2-letter temperament combinations.. dang it.. why do I know this.. shouldn't have taken that HOD class
It is interesting that the binaries are all split fairly evenly except the Thinking/Feeling. Why don't we have many Feelers here?
I'm not so sure that it is that surprising considering the nature of an online BBS forum. It can be a pretty contentious place and feelers are definitely more suseptible to that. My mom used this quite a lot with groups as a counselor and therapist. It can be really effective.
ESTJ Extroverted-100% Sensing-1% Thinking-33% Judging-11% Hmmmm, 100% extroverted, and 1% Sensing. That can't be good.
INFP. So we do have a few "feelers" on here. But notice what Jeff said... I almost always stay out of the D&D. You get a lot of intelligent science and computer types on a bbs like this. I would expect mostly "thinkers". I know how to operate either way, but lately I'm convinced that, if I do nothing but cold hard logic all day, I'm killing off an important part of myself. Even here working in the science department, I still consider myself more of an artist as an individual. My family, I suspect, is mostly "thinkers". Sigh. Rocket Fan's description of the NF works pretty well too...
I took a summer course on this in Grad School. Was pretty enlightening. For instance, before the course, I would have assumed that someone who dropped-out of college was a ... er ...screwed up. Myers-Briggs showed that they could just have a personality type that did not like college. Was somewhat helpful when interviewing candidates for jobs.
Not sure if the model accounts for the theory of relativity or not, but it would seem a signficant factor. Yao is a good Example. On CNT he's an extravert. But on the Rockets a major intravert. Yet no major life change has instigated his movement to one or the other. A simple change of environment.
If the current trends hold true, the BBS as an organic whole would be INTP. Some elements seems like stuff I've noticed in the BBS' response to me.
Muhuahahaha, i am the standard bearer! For what its worth, I think you can toss out the E/I distinction in cyberspace. Being an e-personality is a different thing than in real life.
