Dude honestly, just get a PS3 The system is more reliable and they have mostly the same games. The exclusives arent enough unless you just love online playing to death and sci fi games. After my first died i sold my 2nd and got a wii. Now im PS3 with the same games, and a Wii and its a shame that even back in the days of NES and Sega Master System, heck even Atari, you never turned on your console wondering if this is the day its going to go out on me like a cheap tire.
Yeah I'm on the same launch date XBox, but it's going in for it's second repair. It got RROD'd about a year after I got it, now I've got the E74 error w/3 red lights. I sent it in, but they sent it back claiming it had been "tampered" with because it had a scratch on the case near the serial number and the two halves of the case didn't meet flush, which it did before I sent it in the first time. After a couple of weeks of arguing, I got a call back from them saying that they had "reassessed" my case and they sent me a new box to ship it to them in overnight. This whole case has irritated me to no end. I've got a PS3, but I'll freely admit that I'm an Achievement junkie and prefer getting the 360 version of games when possible. At least I'll have Metal Gear to keep me warm at night starting tomorrow.
Dude that sucks once my Xbox360 F***ed up when I kicked it by mistake I just got Microsoft to fix it and even moving it makes the system sratch my games, it scratched my NBA live 08..I had 2 copies
This is the reason why I got a Wii. I wanted to get a 360 soooo bad to play Halo , but read too many bad reviews about other people's xbox dying quickly. Wii don't have half the games as good as xbox, but at least it doesn't die prematurely... unless you accidentally throw your wiimote towards the tv while swinging.
These issues are what caused me to buy a PS3 a few days ago. I got GTA IV with it and I am completely happy with it. As noted, the PS3 does not make the noise that friends' 360s do and there is no RRoD. As far as online goes, it is a plus for me, but not critical so I'm extremely happy that Sony's network is free of charge, whereas there are subscription fees for Xbox Live.
If it wasn't for the failure rates, I would probably have found a way to get a 360 by now on the cheap. They have plenty of games I would love to try, including some old xbox games. PS3 is too expensive and too few games, though I like the hardware itself. The wii has more games but the hardware sucks, esp for the price. Wont care about the hardware if enough games come out for it that I love, esp rpgs. And with how they are destroying the hd consoles in sales, surely those games will come ... but who knows really. This whole gen has been wacky so far. So I continue to eat off of the fat of the PS2 library. And I got a ds as well. I'll either jump in near the end of this gen when the prices drop or I'll just skip it completely.
Doesn't the 360 also scratch disks really easily? I remember I was with a few friends playing on his 360 and one of them picks up the 360 and flips it around and I could hear a little screeching noise, it ended up his NBA LIVE 06 disc was scratched just like that.
I am relatively happy with my X-box even though it has failed 4 times now.... I ended up buying a 2nd unit for my kids, so I can bogart theirs for a week or so when needed. I am thinking about the PS3, now that MGS has come out....but not yet. DD
you know you want one, think Blu-Ray for all those hdtvs you got lol aight ill try keep my fanboyism to myself. but yeah, why not have both?
I feel for you DD. It sucks when your 360 gets that horrible RROD. I got one 2 hours out of a new box.
My 3rd one has been a charm, although my gf just got a wii for graduation so we've been hitting that up. It's just amazing to say my gf plays video games. I never would have thought it possible. We just beat Mario Galaxy. Bowser's gone forever for now.
I have both a PS3 and an XBOX 360. I would say I find myself playing the XBOX 90% of the time with the PS3 used almost exclusively for movies. I just enjoy XBOX Live more than PS3s version.
I've got an Xbox 360 and a Wii right now. The Wii is collecting dust. I'll eventually get the PS3 when more games I want come out for it. The Xbox basically gets played daily. I really hope I don't get the RROD. I have one one of the newer falcons so it's supposed to be better. I check the Xbox all the time after its on for hours and it never feels hot at all. It also has a BENQ dvd drive which is supposed to be the quietest one, but it's still noticeable if you listen for it during loading screens and other quiet moments. If this is the quiet DVD drive, I'd hate to hear the other ones. Oh yeah, you guys complaining about noises or scratched disks when you move the xbox while it's on almost deserve it. It's pretty much common sense. DON'T move it while it's on. Those disks are spinning pretty fast.. There's probably an underlying problem with that somewhere, but still, it's wise to be careful with that
Pass on the fan. I bought one for my son and he started getting the RROD less than a year later. I've sent it in twice (though the first time I immediately got the RROD after it's return from getting "fixed"). This time my son has played it for a week and all seems well. He's planning on selling it now to pay for a subwoofer. 2 controllers, wireless adapter, Halo, Skate and some other game that is popular but I have forgotten what it is. I'll throw in the fan for free but I'd pass on hooking it up.
