weird that this thread popped up I just bought a 360 to do the old switcheroo. I just switched serial number stickers and it looks fine I didn't think about changing the whole case.
I have a PS3 but with the 360 being 200 bucks I was thinking of getting one for Halo. Is it worth it or is it still quite likely to fail?
A week to two weeks I've had to return it three times now...I like the games the 360 comes out with (Gears of War and Fable), but the crap gets real annoying...I let my brother take it to college and I bought a PS3
I sent my 360 that got the single red light of death in as a RROD warranty repair (my Xbox was close to 3 years old). They sent me a different Xbox back. Plugged it in, RROD right off the bat. Sent it in, got one back that works...for now.
I've had the red ring of death on three separate occasions...the towel trick (overheating it) has worked like a charm every time.
I saw a video of some guys wrapping a 360 in towels. I thought it was a joke. Why would that have any effect? My 360 won't even start up and freeze now. It just RRODs right off the bat. Ahh...forget it. Found the explanation: What sounds like urban myth, might actually be steeped in truth. Wrapping a 360 in a towel may mimic the affects of the heat gun fix. That is, apparently the red ring of doom is frequently an indication of a faulty ball grid array (BGA), used to solder the GPU chip. The towel wrap holds in the console's excess heat, likely melting the BGA and re-establishing a temporary connection between the GPU and circuit board. Of course, the heat will also damage numerous plastic parts within the console. Not recommended.
Just call them again and tell them that you have the RRoD. Send it in and they will send you are refurbished one. I did this recently.
Wow, didn't see yesterday that my old thread had been resurrected. Just so I don't Almu everyone, what I ended up doing was calling again and telling Microsoft that I had gotten the 3 red rings of death (which was true...did get that error one time months and months before the problem I had then). They sent the box and I mailed it in. Even though the current error was the 4 blinking red rings, they fixed it and sent it back without charging me. So for those keeping score, all my waffling on the moral issue was total crap, because I pretty much lied anyway. But I didn't have to pay! Also, I made certain to take the XBox 360, after repairs, and put it up on top of my entertainment center rather than inside it. Haven't had any issues yet. If your 360 doesn't have really good circulation around it (meaning open air) I would recommend moving it to a place that does.
Yeah, mine is refurbished and has an expired warranty...so I figure I should at least use it for as long as possible. If I could return it I would...but the towel trick does work (just had to do it again last night - usually holds for a week or two between overheating).
I didn't quite notice at the time but my 360, which I have standing up, was a little close to the side of my DVR but not touching. The DVR heats up quite a bit on the side...which I really didn't noticed until the other day. So, even when my 360 was off, it was getting hot from my DVR next to it. This may have contributed to my problem. I did a little re-arranging to move some stuff...but too late I guess. I can't be positive that caused the problem to begin with...but it probably didn't help. It had been that way for a while and wasn't a problem before. But, the other day when it became a problem, it happened pretty much as soon as I turned my 360 on and launched into some FX Pinball. Doesn't matter...to MS...it is a sure-fire RROD...and they will have to give me another one under the warranty.
I don't have those problems. Luckily... But I do remember that happened once, one red light and I restarted and everything was alright. Good luck.
Outside of FPS, I really don't think there are that many better games for XBox 360 than PS3. Fable II does comes to mind, but I imagine a gamer would have a rig that can run it, and you know most Xbox 360 games comes to PC.
Yeah but what kind of machine do you need to run them on PC? I think you need to spend at least 2000$ to play Fallout as on Xbox. Even then it's not same because it's on the monitor and if you put it on widescreen framerate falls so down it's garbage. But nevertheless Xbox has proven that it's the best console...by far.
lol yeah right the best console doesnt have a LONG history of constant hardware failures delusional much?
