DrofDunk, Check out the difference in CSI and VDS between Infiniti and Nissan. For chrisakes, they are the same company!!!! PS - I am suprised Nissan scored so low in both categories. I really believe in the products they put out.
Wie geht's Herr Det....what are they saying about the new A6 out in Deutschville? Was thinking of getting one for my little sis when it arrives in the states...
pippendagimp, fine, thanks . Are you in Barcelona? I'm actually not very passionate about cars. The one I posted is the one I am currently driving, but only because I could get it as a company car... Therefore, I don't really know about the A6 either...I know a guy who drives one and loves it, but that's about all I know about it.
Hey, I actually had to return to the states last month and may head for Berlin instead of Barcelo in September now.....Catalan is just too damn hard to learn!! Btw, nice Benz...how many chicks can u fit in the back?
Well, let me know when you'll be here because I am on a project in Berlin until the end of the year and therefore usually in Berlin during the week . (One chick on the passenger seat is enough ).
Part of the reason is all the new cars/models Nissan has brought out in the last couple of years. The Quest, Armada, 350Z, Maxima, Altima... all are completely revised or new cars and are experiencing "first few years blues" in terms of problems. Their quality has gone down recently in my opinion. Their bulletproof engines are having issues. They also cheapened the interiors so they can shove in 250+ hp engines into family sedans that still cost $26k. There's also the the fact that the higher-end divisions of carmakers (Infiniti, Acura, Lexus, etc.) tend to bend over backward to keep people happy whereas the "other end" (Nissan, Honda, Toyota) treat you as just another customer. I never believed this to be true until I bought my Acura. These people are all over me doing stuff I would never have had them do, nor did I expect them to do. That maybe lessens the "pissed off factor" people have when they aren't satisfied with the higher end manufacturers.
codell.. the nissan and infiniti thing is a little surprisingly.. but i must say.. i drive an infiniti and the dealerships seem to be amazing.. literally fixing thousands of dollars worth of stuff under warranty.. without even having to be talked into doing it.. and some of it I did'nt even know was wrong. i'd be interested to see if the service at the inifniti dealerships is much better than it is at the nissan dealerships.. because i heard the bad story about nissan on here, meanwhile at the infiniti dealerships they were giving me loaner cars etc no problem..
Yeah, loaner cars help I guess. Nissan still suprises me. I worked for Baker Jackson here in Houston back in the 90s and we always had an outstanding CSI rating. DoD is right though. We tried out the Armada for a few weeks and ending up turning it back in. The thing was just too damn big and the interior just wasn't up to their standards. Very cheap looking. On top of that, they weren't offering any incentives for the damn thing. Mid $30s for a base model with cloth seats. Nissan has ALWAYS geared their cars for performance over comfort.
I guess I should have told an example.. my air conditioner. if all the radio etc was off the fan seemed to make a tiny noise.. so I mentioned it whe I was in there.. figuring it probably was just how it gets, but thought they could put some oil on the fan or something... they replace the entire air conditioning system.. blower etc no questions asked.. when they could have easily said they couldn't do anything about a little noise.. the transmission didtn' seem to be shifting right.. still drove and everything but seemed like it was shifting late.. changed that the same visit as air conditioner with no questions asked... and then went ahead and changed power stering pump that i hadn't known was messed up at all.. meanwhile giving me a very nice loaner car etc during all this... yeah it's all stuff they should do.. but i was very surprised they'd spend thousands for a little air conditoiner noise.. very happy with the service.
codell.. yeah we got the infiniti used from baker jackson.. loaner cars help some I guess, but they all should give you one.. my dad had a problem with his chevy.. and I don't know if they usually give you one or not, but he made sure they had him a vehicle to drive. of course he got 350k miles on his truck he drove to work for years that was a nissan.. so he loves nissan
With the exception of Chevys, the only car that I consistantly see with 200,000+ miles on them are Nissans. Here is some interesting information that I came across in the last few weeks about warranties. It turns out, alot of major manufacturers are outsourcing their warranties. They are actually now covered under insurance policies they take out and those insurance companies send reps out to the dealers to verify the warranty claim. That might explain why some of the really good manufacturers are more apt to cover warranty items so quickly and not dispute them since its not coming, in full, directly out of their pockets.
Mercedes E-Class Diesel. That's why they are being used as taxis in Germany...they run forever. 400k miles and more.
Here in the States, Benz owners don't tend to keep their cars that long. At least, not from my perspective. Ive seen plenty with 200,000 +, just not the same amount as Nissans. Its kind of funny, I can't remember ever looking at a BMW that had over 200K on it. Very rare.
Yeah, me neither. By the way, I think people in Houston in general tend to put a higher mileage on their cars than people elsewhere...with cars in Germany, they are used at a higher top speed (due to the lack of a speed limit) which probably contributes to a shorter life span, and in most urban areas other than Houston (most cities in Germany, New York, or something like that), there will be more stop-and-go traffic. Hmm...on the other hand, I think you have more potholes over there. Don't know, but it seems to me that people keep their cars longer in Houston.
I used to think no one has had more problems than me with a Jetta including. Sunroof going bad. 4 windows. fuel pump brake sensor (recall unit) side air bag. oxygen sensor mass air flow sensor instrument cluster coolent pump catalytic convertor complete engine failure requiring a new engine. AC compressor However, just visit myvwlemon.com you will realize that I am not the exception. I'm the rule. And people that have no problems are the exception. PS: Passat's suck also, just not as bad.
What did the AC compressor sound like when it went out? Was it a loud whirring sound? My Jetta also had an oil leak just behind the right front tire. My (then) regular mechanic couldn't figure it out so I took it to the dealership... $1300 later it was fixed. Now at least I have a mechanic that I trust.
Yeah, I've had problems w/ my Bug's windows too. Plus, the "door" to the gas tank never worked right. Those things were more hassles than anything. It's when I had to spend a couple of grand to fix the brakes + another couple grand to fix the A/C that really pissed me off.
codell.. have you regularly seen toyotas up around 200k too? We also have a toyota with I think around 140k miles on it.. hoping to get at least another year out of it..
