I think picking up multiple former semi-All Stars would be better than our current team since we didn't have any All Stars this year. Here are my scenarios: -We give Yao Ming to NY for Eddy Curry and Nate Robinson or -We give Yao Ming to Miami for Jermaine O'Neal and Udonis Haslem (maybe even Dorrell Wright too if DM works his Jedi mind tricks) or -We give Yao Ming to Washington for Gilbert Arenas and Mike James
IMO, unless we have a major sign and trade with the whole Bosh thing, the only roster space where any rookie would recieve any playing time would be a C/PF or a PG. I just dont think we have any need to two second round picks unless we depleat our roster this summer in trades. I know that 99% of the time in the draft you take the best player available but in this draft you can potentially take the best PF or C available at the 14th spot and still get a productive or good prospective player. I think that trading down to get a better player is actually a better option if we could only give away our 2011 pick and maybe a filler like jermaine taylor, Lull, or maybe just cash. The only way i think we move back is if Morey thinks he can still get the guy he wants later in the draft and get something else in return. Just not sure what else in return he would really want (potentially another pick, a current player off of the other teams roster, or just money)
the idea behind trading down is to get two players at lower spots, BUT the key is to keep the difference in talent/potential low. You may give up a 10 for 2 picks in the 20s, give up a late first rounder for two 2nd round picks, maybe even a #2 for a 7 and 8.....something like that...of course it largely depends on the talent depth on the board, but the point is you'll always have a large talent gap in the scenarios you suggested...it's trading too far down.
Ok why would you trade the 14th pick to go down to the second round when you can buy the 2rd from teams.???
If the rockets could pry the 16 and 23 picks from Minny, you would have to consider it. Soloman Alabi and Paul George would be a huge haul in this very deep and talented draft.
Our roster is already over-filled as it is, now you want to add multiple second-tier players too? Ugh. Terrible idea. Yes the draft is deep, but we need to add a single top-shelf player, most likely at the cost of multiple players/picks, not the other way around. Your idea is the exact opposite of what we need. To quote a great man: 'Your suggestion is not unlike your lower intestine - stinky, and loaded with danger.'
If he's there, i would just draft whiteside and stick him in the d-league this year and bring him up when their season is over. The rockets still need to develop talent. If whiteside turns out to be a young theo ratliff, thats pretty good value at 14.
OP, dude seriously those are simply terrible proposals!! http://blogs.saschina.org/oliver01pd2016/files/2009/12/epic-fail-sports-fail-epic-forehead-weak-r****d-demotivational-poster-1206344902.jpg --RB
I agree, but don't think he will be there when all said and done. Most high potential bigs move up the boards the closer we get to the draft. I also expect Solomon Alabi to vault up the boards as well, saw the 1st day of the combines in Chicago and Alabi really impressed me with his shot.
lol you are kidding right? All those teams would gladly trade for yao in those situations. Plus, nate robinson? so 2 undersized guards is not enough? Also he is in boston now? Anyway, I am not supportive of trading down. This year's draft is really deep and at 14 we could potentially get someone that could be one of our main players in the future.
lol @ 2 second round picks for a lotto pick. it's usually hard to find a taker for 2 first round picks for their lotto pick. would you actually trade shane battier for jermaine taylor and sergio llull?
I wouldn't be surprised if Morey did a trade for a guy like Jason Thompson. Something like: Houston recieves: Jason Thompson & 33rd pick overall Sacremento recieves: David Andersen & the 14th pick Morey could get another big @ 33 & the Kings could draft a combo guard to pair with Evans ( Avery Bradley or Eric Bledsoe). Somebody who could play off the ball on offense & on the point on defense. This woulld allow Evans to play point on O and off the point on defense.
