I don't think you are understanding me. In my last post, I said... I was trying to point out that you don't have to be the singular marketable superstar on your team to gain plenty of fame and notoriety. In the actual column, I said... This isn't to say that Francis will end up as third fiddle to Yao and Eddie Griffin. Chances are, Francis' talents are too valuable to be relegated to a support role even if it is a key one. My point was that he needs to realize that: 1. There is enough fame to go around. He doesn't need to operate under the scarcity principle. 2. Winning = Notoriety. If you win, everything else takes care of itself. The reason I used Worthy as an example is that he could have been a star on any team and even though there were bigger personalities on that team, he still managed to come out of it well-recognized and well-compensated. Given that this is still Francis' team, he shouldn't be worrying about it. He should be more concerned about getting healthy and winning.
Good take, Jeff! Do you know who Francis wanted the Rockets to pick up last year? Did he want the 3 rookies or did he want someone else who was picked after Griffin at #7?
Great post Jeff. I posted here a month ago that Yao and Steve simply WON'T work...and this has just confirmed my views.
