well said.... one thing I hated about Last Comic Standing, is that they made the perception that people that are performing on the show are doing it literally for the first time, in reality, most of have been doing it in some cases more than a decade, hence is the reason why I think Carlton and the janitor from Scrubs are jackasses for critiquing you like you were a first timer when you were on LCS.... just like in every business, it sucks balls when u see people make it big that just suck (Bobby Lee, Dane Cook) yet the good ones never will get recognition they deserve
The point I am making is it's not always necessary in every instance. You can find that in the second line of my first post: I still think using profanity can be cheap. George Carlin based a lot of his comedy on profane material, sure. Take his "7 Dirty Words" that he was known for...I consider that different than using "adjective-profanity". You can emphasize a point without the "what the ****" or "that's ****ing" whatever or "go **** yourself" as the punchline. Again I'm not anti-cursing, but I just consider it different than, for example, Larry David calling someone a "cvnt." Notice how in that case the use of profanity isn't an adjective, a false "emphasis". In an effort to provide feedback related to the OP's gig (and OP, don't take it personally), what's the added value/benefit of saying "****ing cash in his wallet"? Take the "****" out and then determine if it's amusing, or is simply funny just because profanity sounds cool. I think it's a cheap shortcut. I hear it a lot when I'm at comedy clubs, but just because other comedians say it, that doesn't mean it's necessary. I'm sure as the OP continues he'll constantly review and re-work his delivery and phrasing for all of his jokes, and even determine the moments when profanity can add something instead of just saying it just to say it. And regardless, I'm simply providing my feedback and opinion in a constructive manner. Not sure what the deal is with your harsh tone and belief that I'm giving bad advice. Surely you can admit that there is some validity to my argument.
I understand your point of view, I def. agree about the "F-in cash" part, and after watching the clip I immediately realized it wasnt necessary. I also really liked the comment by another brother (whats your real name?) it really puts standup into perspective for outsiders who may not understand how much work and talent it really takes
For some reason I thought he started sooner then that. Nah I seen him enough. I might be at Sherlocks tonight.
his previous post in the thread said he HEADLINED a show last Thursday, that answers you question he hasn't done an open mic night in years
Actually, I saw him doing an open mic at Davenport a few weeks ago. Always a good thing to keep out there in several capacities.
I LOVE open mics! The one that I do the most consistently is the one at Sherlock's (River Oaks) on Monday nights. It's the old Laff Stop. It was good to see you there, and the chick that you were with. Very nice! You're a grossly underrated beast my friend! Negative cred for lack of originality.
