I think you're right. I kinda hit you over the head with a bunch of names at the start. I'll have to make it more gradual, but I have an action sequence 6 pages in... I don't want it much earlier than that. By the way, arno_ed, I'll try sending you a copy later, because for some reason my e-mail is screwy at the moment. It won't accept my password, the one that worked last night. Go figure.
Thanks for the email i'll read it tonight hopefully. What Sci-fi/ Fant. besides Tolkien has influenced your work? Vernor Vinge's novel "A Fire upon the Deep" is my personal favorite along with Lord of the Rings. good luck with the novel
Here is a site that will post short stories (if they are good enough) where millions of people will be able to view your work. Possibly get noticed by a publisher. http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/indexframe.html Here are some very good Sci-fi short stories: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/sci-fiindex.html
I've sent my story to arno_ed, Gutter Snipe, RocketsPimp, and FranchiseBlade. BobFinn*, uhhh, thanks... but I don't think I'm quite as good as most of the people with stories on that site (Poe, Jules Verne, Hawthorne, Jack London, Ambrose Bierce, Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle). Thanks anyway . Your vote of confidence is assuring. Besides, my story isn't short... it's 50 pages now and is going to be at least 200 if I ever finish it. KingCheetah... my favorites in fantasy are Tolkien (of course), David Eddings (though I don't use much of his style) and George R. R. Martin. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series is truly great. The first book is called A Game of Thrones if anyone is interested in some good fantasy (i.e. not mine). I've also read and enjoyed Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks, Weis/Hickman, Raymond Feist, Lloyd Alexander, Tad Williams, Brian Jacques, and lastly, just one of Richard Adams' books, a true classic, Watership Down (the one with the rabbits ). So there's my influence for you. I haven't read any of Vernor Vinge's stuff, I'll have to check it out.
Sorry, but... that #1 in the right bar under Top 5 Sci-fi/Fantasy (An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce) was published in 1890. I remember studying it in school, very closely (and seeing it on the SAT). As for Jack London, ever heard of The Call of the Wild (the one they made a major motion picture out of)? He wrote that. Thank you again, but unless you're giving me the wrong link, those people are far from amateurs. Anyway, those two have been dead for 90 years. I think if this site is publishing stuff as it is submitted, there are a few people ahead of me . I looked around the site... and they will let you publish stuff, but I think being put next to Jack London could only make me look bad. I doubt that my stuff is good enough to publish right now, anyway.
Yeah, my bad. I looked around and recognized a lot of the authors. I guess not enough stories pass their high standards, so they put published works up for something to read. Here is another one to check out: http://www.sffworld.com/authors/fiction/cont2.html
Now that site would be more my speed, but again, my story isn't short. If I was going to put my story on the internet, I'd probably put it on http://www.stories.com/. Thanks for the effort, though. It is appreciated... it's just that I want to get a little more done before I start looking for exposure.
