haha. Where does this Washington and WSU comment come from? I like the Pac-10, but I never said Washington or WSU should be that high. Washington is the biggest fraud in the Pac-10, yet your team should have lost to them, if not for the stupidity of UW. The Rose Bowl will be a totally unfair matchup for the Big 10. They will get outclassed, because of the lack of team speed, and mediocre coaching. Coaching really matters in bowl games, when you have 1 month prepare.
Talking.... Oregen should have lost to UCLA if not for the inability of their kicker, ND should have lost to Mich if, well too many if there. What are you really trying to say
The Big Ten's won seven of the last nine Big Ten-Pac Ten Rose Bowls. If you're going to make sweeping, "I'm an expert/you're not" statements, you should at least try to look like you know what you're talking about. Everone has an opinion and none of us are experts.
That, after the top 3 teams in the nation (read my first post), it goes way downhill. Too many teams with too many chinks in their armor. IMO, this is weakest year of college football talent-wise, that I've seen in a while.
Did I say, Pac-10 was better than the Big 10, in 1995? No. I'm saying right now. I could care less how good the Big 10 was in the mid-90s. I know the Big 10 was arguably the best conference in the late 90s. Again, I'm talking about the present. If we're going to talk about the past, why don't we just talk about ND in every post?
Um, because every year people say "Oh the Pac-10 has too much speed for the Big Ten blah blah blah" and every year that weak **** gets thrown back in their faces when the Big Ten wipes the field with the Pac-10 champion. The only time the Pac-10 champ beats the Big Ten champ is when the Big Ten doesn't send its best team (1995, 2000).
Huh?? How in the hell are they still ranked?? ROFL on that one. I think overall that the Pac-10 is stronger than the Big 10, but I don't see how you can say the Pac-10's best (Oregon) is better than the Big 10's best right now (Ohio State). However, it seems like to me that both conferences are down this season compared to the last couple of years. I still think that OSU will choke to Michigan...could very well be Iowa in the Rose Bowl as they do not have to play OSU.
How about a top 5 conferences listing? 1. Big 12 2. everyone else Seriously...there's not a big gap amongst the next 4-5 conferences, the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big East, and Pac 10. Each conference has their top teams and their fair share of bottom feeders...but none of them can touch the Big 12.
Because Florida could still kill several of the teams in the top 25 like Bowling Green, perhaps Iowa or Penn St., Air Force, some others... It does seem ridiculous though with 3 losses
Actually I personally think the Pac-10 is the best conference right now, top to bottom. They don't have Baylor. I keep seeing people say they think OSU will choke against Michigan. Again, I will ask: did you guys see the Ohio State-Michigan game last year? Are you aware Ohio State has a new coach, that John Cooper doesn't coach the Buckeyes any more? Woody Hayes was 16-11-1 against Michigan. Earle Bruce was 5-4. Jim Tressel is 1-0. The only coach OSU has had since WWII that couldn't handle Michigan was John Cooper. He's gone. OSU's problem with Michigan is gone. Watch. It will be back to they way it used to be, back to the way rivalries are supposed to be-- anyone can win in any given year. I don't think it makes sense to expect OSU to lose to Michigan because it happened repeatedly in the 1990s. Not saying Michigan can't win the game, just that my interpretation of what I'm seeing is knee-jerk Trev Alberts-style Cliff Notes ****. I'm not seeing "Michigan should be able to contain OSU's running game, forcing the Buckeyes to pass, and I don't think Krenzel can be successful against the UM secondary". I wouldn't agree with that, but I could at least accept it as more than fortune-cookie forecasting.
I haven't seen either team play (talking about Michigan and Ohio State) to really comment. However, I am just not convinced that OSU is on the same level as Miami, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech. Georgia maybe better than them. The Big 10 has become such a wild, high-scoring conference that it is very conceivable to see OSU lose to Wisconsin this Saturday. They just don't strike me as a dominant team. I threw out the Michigan thing because there are some teams that seem to have other teams' number, but you are right in that Tressel has not lost to Michigan. But I will still be skeptical of OSU against Michigan until they win like 3 in a row over the Wolverines just like I am skeptical (now) of Texas ever beating a Bob Stoops-coached OU team. Here is an interesting question: if Iowa goes unbeaten in the Big 10 and Ohio State does the same, who goes to the Rose Bowl?? I know some conferences pick the team with the higher ranking, but it seems like the Big 10 does it differently like who hadn't been there longer but I can't remember for sure.
Manny, Tressel won in Ann Arbor last year against a favored Michigan team. That's the main reason I put so much faith in him re: breaking OSU's UM jinx. He hit a home run last year. OSU hadn't won in Ann Arbor since I was in the 7th grade, before last year. I agree with you that OSU does not strike me as being as impressive a team as Miami or OU. Virginia Tech, maybe. I'd really like to see OSU face OU, just to see how that would turn out. OSU has lost to Wisconsin eight times since 1980, so it's definitely possible. Regarding the tiebreaker: It's head to head, then overall record, then "team that hasn't been there the longest". So if OSU and Iowa win out, OSU goes, because they will have a better overall record. If OSU had lost a non-conference game and they'd won out, Iowa would have gone, because they haven't been to the Rose Bowl as recently (1990 season vs 1996 season).
Thanks Brian for explaining that to me. I thought it was something like that, but wasn't for sure. The matchup I would love to see is believe it or not, Georgia vs OU. I think on paper that Georgia is the better team, but OU knows how to win big games and Georgia is still learning. However, I still think that Georgia has yet to play their best game.
OSU is not on the level of Miami and OU. Not even close. I think Georgia is very overrated, but they're a solid team anyways.
OU is not on the level of Miami. Noone is on the level of Miami. However just like last weekend anything can happen. Still I think OSU matches up against anyone. We have tghe best RB in the country, the best safety combo in the country, a good set (3) of WRs, a good DL (7 men rotating in), and a QB who will not lose a game for us, and a Coach who knows how to prepare a teamand win. As for the PAC 10, well maybe you have more depth but I'll take our top 3-4 teams against yours anytime. Well wait that already happend OSU already shut Gesser down. He got all his stats in the 4Q against our 2nd team. Anywyas nothing will be solved until either: 1. The championship game is played 2. OSU loses 3. The Rose Bowl So no use in arguing, it's a waste of time until something shakes out.
You're thinking of the Texas Tech game. Gesser and Washington State played much better in the first half than they did in the 2nd half.
Nope he had 300+ yards passing but 150 or so was in the 4Q. I stand firmly behind that comment that Gesser did not put up his big numbers until the game was over (4Q)
