Get a 360! I never liked the ps3's ugly george foreman grill design. And the redesigned slim is even worse, it looks like cheap plastic all around.

Yes, I would also like to suggest buying a video game console based on how it looks.

Just get a slim. If you had a backwards compatible model I would say send it in to get repaired, but since that's not a concern I'd say get the slim since it will probably last longer.

Well, I suppose yet another 'my game console died!' thread is as good a place as anywhere else to finally ask:

    So?

It's a piece of electronics. They don't last forever, and never claimed to.

Get it repaired or get a new one. It's not like it's ridiculously expensive. In fact, as far as *value* goes, entertainment benefit versus the dollars spent on the unit itself (since one would assume you won't throw out all your games), the value is incredible, even if you end up buying a new one every 2 or 3 years.

It's no different that VCR's, DVD players, laptop computers, phones, camcorders, digital cameras, etc etc etc.

It's always struck me as odd how people freak out when their xbox or ps3 dies, like it's the end of the world. And how many of these people for whom this game console makes up the center of their universe ever bother to spend a few extra bucks at the time of purchase for a full extended warranty to protect them from the expense of having to buy a new one in just this very eventuality? Not very many, I suspect.

I own both since my xbox 360 arcade was basically $80 through the target deal. It's still in box in the bag it came in, but I play my ps3 everyday. Different strokes for different folks i guess.

Yup, I own both also. Got both at launch (at their respective times). PS3's dusted away for years though last november I did buy MW2. I usually use my PS3 for media items such as music and movies... my xbox is all about the games.. and well Netflix. I just feel more comfortable playing my games on there... the controller is a better feel in my hands also. I always found it was so much more fun interacting online with friends/people online on the xbox than the ps3.

I turned my PS3 on yesterday and it ran just fine with no errors for well over an hour. Maybe it healed itself!

sound like it just over heated. Mine died over the weekend also. I will guess I will send it to Sony to repair it.

as far as this consol war, WHY? I mean I have had a system from every generation since ATari. I have never seen people B**** and moan about who is better. If you or a family is not employed by one or the other, why act like that? they both are great for some things and are not for others, nuff said

IIRC the difference was about 100 bucks. He figured he might as well and spend the extra money to get a brand new one from Best Buy with factory and their extended warranties than just a refurbished one from Sony

$300ish. maybe im just not hardcore enough, but i fail to understand how people can spend upwards of $500 on a gaming system, especially those who buy a system to play just ONE game. add games, controllers, and xbox live into the mix, and you end up paying stupid money...

just got a ps3 this spring, and even at $300 it felt like a painful hit. guess ill just stick to nintendo. call me what you will, but i like their games better anyways.

I held out because I was waiting for the price to drop, but my PS2 finally stopped working so I finally gave in and bought one. A few months later the price dropped.
