Last night as I was downloading the latest system update, my PS3 suddenly beeped twice and then shut off. After that the red light continued to blink. I was able to turn it back on and it would run anywhere from a few seconds to 30 minutes, but eventually it would shut itself down again. I tried restoring back to factory defaults but that didn't do any good. Anyone else ever experienced this? I've read a lot online about people getting the 'Yellow light of death', but I checked and mine never displays a yellow light. It's always red. I thought maybe it's a fan/overheating issue, since it will run for a few minutes before shutting down. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to look into repair, or if I need to just buy a new PS3. My system is almost 3 years old, so I know it's no longer under warranty. Or, I'm considering getting a 360 again because that's what most of my friends play on.
Mine had a yellow light out of warranty. I ended up sending it back to Sony to repair for about $150, maybe a little more I don't remember. I don't think they actually repair the system, they send you a refurbished one. Do you have a fat or skinny model?
If this was an XBox RROD thread, there would be 5 pages of people telling you to get a PS3. Now what?
Yea it's done forever. This happened to my friend right when NBA Live 2010 came out and the game got stuck in there. We had to open up the PS3 to get it out and he had to just buy a new system because his warranty expired

Send it in to get repaired.. Sony probably has some type of repair plan in place. I never understood why people with broken systems just toss it out and go buy new ones. People on the internets saying they are on their 8th 360/PS3 is mind boggling when you can send it in for free.. I guess people would rather pay 300 bones instead of wait 2 weeks..
You have to get rid of the ?v=0 at the end, then you can hot link the pic. Thinking about getting rid of my ps3...I never play it, old 40gb fatty. Bought Red Dead Redemption...haven't played that in forever....bunch of other games too. Guess i just prefer PC games over console...
