Once Isaiah Canaan gets some experience with the big club he'll be just as good as Lin and Brooks. In my opinion better but definitely just as good.

You couldn't tell that from what goes on around here. From all the discussion about Lin, any random person who comes to CF would think he's the franchise player

I think Danny Granger is a possible target. About $14mil due this year and expiring. He somewhat plays a position of need, and Indiana need a good PG either to beat out George Hill for the starter's job or to come off the bench.

The reasoning in the OP is solid. However, I don't see it happening. I think it would be a mistake to let Lin leave. He really does well for this roster as a scoring PG and meshes well with our other pieces. I also understand that as fans we've pretty much exhausted trade scenarios for Asik and it's clear that none of those moves or player targets are probably by themselves and that Lin is the team's only other major trade piece.

It's a tough decision and I don't see it being made.

Your prediction sounds more like a flat out guess to me... But, I do believe Morey will move one of the point guards (don't know which one) to make room for Canaan...

I predict (prediction thread) that Lin stays, Asik goes, and we get into the second round (at least)!
Anything else would be guessing in my part!...

(P.S) This belongs in the trade thread...

Lin off the bench is awesome. Why do we need to trade him now?

I love Lin off the bench!

So a team winning at a .668 clip that has had injuries and their back up center quit on them needs to trade their only pt guard for an overrated star because what?? Why wouldnt they just keep improving and see what they have? Who is that good that the Rockets cant win the whole thing this season? Did we lose to the Heat this season by 55 and i'm just not aware the game happened? They already beat Portland and the Spurs this season. What is your logic besides some childish believe that the Rockets need multiple named stars regardless of their actual talent level or whether they fit into the team. Thats why we are clowning you. Beverley is shooting below 40% from the field averaging less than 3 assts a game and we're ready to trade the point guard who is shooting over 50% and can get to the hole better than almost every player in the league according to sportsvu. A player who has shown he will improve every season...what kind of logic is that? Should we trade Parsons too because he doesnt have a Nike Commercial?

Not necessarily agreeing with that. Obviously Lin can fit into any teams 3 guard rotation as either a starting PG, starting SG, backup PG, or most valuable... 6th of the year type of scoring guard.

Asik's lack of value has more to do with finding a fit than it does overall value as a player. Every NBA team would love to have Asik, but very few teams actually have the need for a starting center at his cost (assuming teams like Miami can't afford him), teams know he cannot play with another center, and most importantly... they know he wont be happy as a backup.

The poison pill deal will continue to be an issue mostly in negotiations and will surely knock down the overall value as a singular piece, but that's why its necessary in the first place to have as many sweeteners as you can to be able to counter during negotiations.

At the end of the day, its 8.4 against the cap which isn't that bad. GM's could care less about the extra amount, they just need something else to show their ownership that here is what I got you on the side to makeup for this cost.

So I disagree that there is a bigger trade market for Asik. I think his overall value is probably higher in an open market scenario with an equal amount of buyers, but right now I have a much harder time finding a home for Asik than I do Lin trade scenarios.

How do you know if you keep tampering with the main rotational guys. We have to let this team materialize into what we want correct. The Rockets shouldn't trade any of its core ( Harden, Howard, Bev, Lin, Jones, and Parson). They are building great chemistry with one another as constructed.

You didnt see the Heat trade away its rotational players when they formed the big three. They convinced some of them to take a pay cut.

Now Asik, DMo and Brewer will be packing up their bags this trade deadline. B

The Heat's rotational players when they formed the Big 3 were minimum salary players and Haslem.

But this really has nothing to do with the thread.

Make your prediction and give some analysis to support your prediction.

Lin won't be traded unless we're

    a) Getting a better combo guard than Lin

    or

    b) Getting a legitimate all star player back

    Period.
