I don't to trade him unless we're really getting an impact guy. Although it'll be nice to see the exodus of his fans.

C'mon, it's pretty obvious that Lin, Asik, and Jones are headed to Miami for Bosh, Chalmers, and Oden.

Don't worry, we'll see them in the Finals...

The guy is still the most talked about player around here even when he's not playing.

(first of all not to be a thread Nazi but... obligatory... random trade thread bro)

Secondly.... Morey was open to shopping both Lin & Asik this Summer in preparation for signing Dwight & potentially signing CP3 so obviously there is that... We all know for a fact that Morey can trade both players and sleep comfortably at night.

However, will Morey be will to let Lin & Asik walk for next to nothing or just a few average players??... no. He wasn't going to make these trades to simply make trades. Also he's going to be much more picky now about who he brings in to be that #3 guy around Dwight and Harden... just because a big name comes available, that doesn't necessarily mean Morey will take the bait.

How the Asik trade demand changed Morey's plans - In the face of adversity there is opportunity for growth. Seeing as though Asik is now all but gone and probably has played his last game for the Rockets, Morey is in a situation now where he will be forced to trade Asik & make roster changes anyways.

So whats the best outcome of this tough situation.... Assuming they cannot get a top notch all-star caliber player with just Asik alone would be to use Asik to get essentially "Sweeteners" for another trade later on... which would be draft picks & expiring contracts to help other teams move out long term salary.

I believe Asik being traded between Dec 15 - 19 for a package of "sweeteners" is first priority. If they do have to take back a player it needs to be either a player that is easily flippable, or a player that basically makes Jones expendable if he is needed for as the big "sweetener" in a later deal.

That later deal will almost certainly revolve around Lin, expiring's, & sweeteners. Where I don't agree with you is when. I believe they have a ton of time to be patient about deal #2. Any time between Dec 16th & the Summer could be the window, depending when the big fish drops out of the sky ready to be plucked. With so few high talent all-stars available, you'd have to think that a major draft day trade is much more likely than a Dec 16th - 19th trade involving Lin.

I think Lin will finish this season as a Rocket, or at earliest would be traded at the deadline... which is unlikely given how few all-star level players are currently looking to be available.

    Lastly-

If this secondary Lin trade DOESN'T come to fruition if Morey can't snag the correct player, I could absolutely see him not trading Lin, keeping him in the last year of his deal, and using those assets to either move up in the draft to take an impact player he has his eyes set on, or to make a "Shane Battier - Type" of deal on draft night.

I think the biggest mistake fans here can make when trying to guess Morey's plans would be to assume that there is just one outcome to his plans, and most importantly... thinking his plans have an immediate outcome.

I didn't know you can make a stand alone trade thread based out of nowhere, but conjectures alone. Good to know.

Carmelo Anthony has to get his wife's approval before being traded.

I thought he has a trade extra $ if he is traded. Is kicker the word I am hunting for.

As a point guard, Lin's contract is going to be more difficult to move than Asik's would as we get closer to the summer. He'll be owed $15 million on a one-year deal. Won't be able to extract any value at that time.

I am still predicting he's gone on Dec 19...with the one exception being that if a team has agreed to a deal for him by the trade deadline with Morey flipping Asik first as you mentioned for other assets to send out with Lin. The most attractive trade package for most of the superstars that may be available at the deadline would be young talent/picks/cap relief. The second most attractive package would be Asik/young talent/expirings/picks. The third most attractive package would be Lin/young talent/expirings.

Teams are much more likely to prefer Asik in a big cap relief package because they know he has a bigger trade market than Jeremy that they can move him if they don't want him.

That's an easy prediction considering the fact that he won't be signing an extension, that another team is going to offer him more money and a chance to start, and that his value will be even lower next season. If he's not traded before the deadline, he'll be next season's Asik, a traded player walking.

Lin will prolly not be gone this year. Unless Morey can get a high draft pick for him allowing us to join in the Wiggins race but that is not likely as well.
Lin is actually the only stable PG we have. On top of that, he prolly brings in more revenue than any other player on our roster.

Doesn't make sense to trade him either way.
