More like Rip Hamilton and Jason Terry: catch and shoot, screens, slashing, etc. He is our best air-baller.
One good thing about that is the ability to make shots without having your feet set can be practiced because it isn't something your born with. If Chase went to the gym for an hour or two and practice fadeaways one day and other shots without having his feet set he would get better at it. He should think about practicing a turnaround jumper too.
In other words, C-Bud is passive. lol BTW, I agree with everything you said. C-Bud's ceiling will only be determined by how much he wants to develop in the summer and, mostly by a mental desire to be just one of the guys or THE guy. Unlike many players, he has the tools to be whatever he wants to be. Anybody with connections to the real Bird (of Larry vintage)? Birdinger could benefit from a one-on-one talk with the legend.
Brent Barry's best years are what C-Budd might become at best. Do not hope for him to be the next (insert star here).
I was frustrated at him at times back in college when he wouldn't drive and force the issue more when he clearly had the athletic advantage against his opponent. But whenver he did good things would always happen. When he puts his mind to it and drive with a purpose he can finish very acrobatically around the rim.
non-biased scouting report from hoopshype Chase Budinger Pretty athletic swingman with nice shooting stroke... Superb finisher and dunker thanks to his leaping skills... Good fast-break player... Nice passer... Average ballhandling skills... Doesn't create his own shot often. http://hoopshype.com/players/chase_budinger.htm
Wha? I thought the complete opposite. I think Buds true potential is in shooting 3s and making drives. If it aint broke why fix it?
nobody's trying to fix it...just upgrading it a little. Would you rather have a baby nokia or a iphone? Sure the baby nokia still works for calling people but the iphone gives you that and so much more.
For some reason, I thought Chase would be at least a 10 ppg scorer after the first preseason game. So far, that game is one of the best he's had. I hope he improves next year.
I'm sorry. Was there someother time that he stole the ball, went behind the back on the dribble for a pull up 3 pointer? Because the one I saw, he hit the shot as the buzzer was going off.
No im pretty sure were talking about the same event here, because the one i saw he took his time to set his feet before taking the 3pointer - which in turn made his shot release just before the buzzer went off. What exactly are you trying to argue here?
My heart wants to say Bud has the ability to become an all-star, but my head says his ceiling is something more along the lines of Mike Miller. A versatile third option with a great jumper and a below average to average defender.
That's not quite what i meant. i should have explained it better. I meant he has to be squared up perfectly to the rim. He never shoots unless he's squared up, maybe that's a good thing within the flow of a good offense, but my point is that is going to keep him from being as mobile with the ball as some here expect, like rex chapman. Bud needs to have some space to square up, otherwise he can't/wont shoot. Nash is like that, but he's really good at using the threat of a pass or his dribble to create space. That means bud needs to expand his game and either become a better passer or more of a threat to drive. Personall i think players in the NBA aren't going to dribble any better through practice, unless they're one of those guys who didnt start playing ball until late in high school or in college. Passing on the other hand, is more about mental court awareness than how you physically pass the ball. That is something he could still improve/learn.
