Rafer is our 6th man. He is not starter material but he would bring alot of energy off the bench. Exactly what the Rockets were lacking off the bench these playoffs. Don't ask me who our starting pg is but it sure as hell shouldn't be Rafer.
yeah we need reliable 6th man someone like finely, stackhouse, barbosa type that gives spark at offensive end. The focus this summer should be purely upgrading offensive production, no more getting "glue mans" or hustler or athletism with little else. We need reliable scorers outside of yao and tmac. A team with the best defensive FG% in the league + 2 stars that averaged over 50 per game and not to win a series with homecourt advantage just says how suck the other players on this team are on the offensive end
I don't think Rafer shoots and finishes well enough to be a legit 3rd scorer that comes off the bench. Again, "legit 3-5" doesn't apply here. I should have been more clear in my original post and title. I think our starting lineup isn't too bad. Not the best of course, but it should suffice most nights. 6th man = 3rd scoring option. Not a 3rd scorer that starts. I mean once one of the starters goes out, who is coming in? Luther Head. I love the guy, but he's not a 6th man anywhere close to a Gordon/Barbosa/etc. We are in dire need of an attacker coming off the bench. So what I'm saying is the 6th man who is a scorer is a higher priority than the PG and PF spots, in my opinion. Cheers. -T
^^ i meant it in a facetious manner. But let me broaden my idea, we need talent everywhere, not just coming off the bench. We have 2 slightly brittle superstars and a backup worthy at every position including our starting 5. I don't think for a moment we should concentrate on any position specifically whether it be the scorer off the bench or a replacement for chucky or rafer.
I think we need to upgrade the 11th man actually. We need a legit 11th man to cheer on our players. Not sulk about playing time. If we had a good 6th man like Barbosa - guess what, they'd be starting!
I think that's a point I'm making. If they are a competent scorer, have them come off the bench, unless it's just obvious to start the guy. I mean BGordon is a hoss that can put up big scoring numbers any night. He COULD start, but serves such a great role coming off the bench to just straight up score. Would it help us? Who knows? I was just thinking...which is already a problem within itself Eh, I just want Tracy to not worry about his back, and start attacking the crap out of opposing defenses. If he played like he did against Dallas 2 seasons ago, we'd be in the 2nd round, possibly the WCF.
WTF. We don't even have a legit staring point guard and power forward. How can we have a legit sixth man.
What if we could find a legit 3rd scorer...backup point guard, backup SG, backup SF and he was easily available (Free Agent) and wouldn't command a huge price...he could play 25 to 30 minutes a night and put up 15pts. Answer: We have the wrong Fab 5 guy...wouldn't Jalen Rose fit in much better and get way more minutes on the Rockets than he would on the Suns? He's 34...but he can still give the Rockets the boost they need.
Well said old man! I think we could actually have a pretty solid bench. Only thing is those players that should be on the bench are either starting or not getting off the pine. Bench Rafer Alston Chucky Hayes Juwan Howard Spanoulis Novak If we could just pick up a solid point guard in the draft who can create for others and maybe a decent power forward from FA, then we will be set. But then again, I think we already knew that. Here's hoping for Adelman! *fingers crossed*
