Instead of this, I would recommend replying to someone as though you were face to face with them. That is what I try to do.

My bad, Jim. I did not mean to come off that way. I mean it sincerely. It's easy for me to read something on the internet and go, for example, "what a ****ing idiot" but that would (almost) never be my reaction in real life.

So what I was suggesting is rather than only be positive, be more genuine - as you no doubt are in real life.
