Msn, can you recall my discussion of David Carr & Dan Pastorini? Their situations were eeriely similar in that both were literally fed to the lions right off the bat as rookie QBs and suffered through horrendous beatings on losing teams. Pastorini actually had it worse because he played in the league before rules were enacted to protect the QB. The BIG difference between the two is Pastorini was mentally tougher than Carr and was able to persevere and lead the Oilers to two AFC Championship games. Carr's battered psyche never recovered and he withdrew into the shell that you guys now make funny about. That's why I don't get this constant villification of Carr because he really wasn't an arrogant a**hole like Terrell Owens nor a miserable human being like Michael Irwin. As I see it, he was simply an unfortunate coulda-been, woulda-been, shoulda-been who wound up in a hellish situation not of his making and a guy failed to survive what hit him. To continue to derive satisfaction from his misfortunes sheds a bad light on you as a person and I know that you to be a better person than that.
I'd much rather concentrate on what the Texans are doing since it's more germane to the issue at hand. Carr can come off the bench next Sunday, channel Joe Montana or Joe Namath and throw 6 TD passes and it wouldn't mean one whit to me if the Texans go out and get embarassed on Thursday night by a bad Denver team.
then why in the world did you bother clicking this thread? and spending enough time here to make multiple posts?
This is what I've never understood. If people don't want to discuss David Carr, why not just ignore the thread titled "David Carr Thread"? It's not that Hillboy doesn't want to discuss David Carr - he participates as much as anyone - he just doesn't want anyone else to.
Guys... guys, guys... WRONG FORUM. He's no longer a Texan, and he ain't a HOF'er, and he didn't bring a championship to Houston... he belongs in the HANGOUT. The Offensive Line sucked ALL THE TIME.
Tracey Murray is no longer a Rocket, he isn't a HOFer, and he didn't bring a championship to Houston, but we can talk about him in the Rockets forum. Why would it be any different here? And why do non-mods feel it necessary to act like forum policemen? If the moderators - you know, the ones that actually determine what is and isn't appropriate to talk about - thought it wasn't right to talk about Carr, they could close or move the thread. The moderators are more than capable of doing their jobs without a bunch of people screaming "wrong forum!!"
OK wiseguy: Show me where I said ever that nobody else could discuss David Carr. I'll wait... And while I wait on that, I'll explain that I was responding to Msn's playful little dig at me in the first post. But folks here don't want to merely discuss David Carr at all. No, they want to relish in his downfall as he fades to black from the league for they have such a burning need to punish him for what happened during his tenure that anyone who preaches reason is treated as an enemy. I see guys like Ric make perfectly reasonable points about Carr that get completely lost in the din. It's as if pretty David PERSONALLY stole your collective girlfriends or slept with your collective spouses. Somewhere in all of this, all perspective is hopelessly lost. I've made my little jokes about how nice his hair looks on the sideline as well but I never elevated it to the level it's being done here. It's as if he's on par with Bud Adams around here. I don't think you guys get it at all: the same type of derisive stuff you say and post about David Carr has been said and is being said up here about the Texans as well. I want the Texans to shut those folks up once and for all which is why I don't choose to focus on Carr anymore because he's become irrelevant and inconsequential.
