My 22YO nephew on my wife's side leaves for Iraq this comng Sunday. He is a gunner on a humvee. His name is Justin
I wish him good luck and good hunting. Hope he comes back safe. I have a relative I'm worried about in Iraq, who's been on assignment in Afghanistan recently. My cuz works for a subsidiary of the VP's favorite charity... the one with the initials. The money is incredible, he's in charge of far more people than he ever dreamed of, and he got promoted recently (hence, the Afghanistan work). The promotion, with the attendent huge bump in dollars, was to get him to re-up with the company, as well as a reward for damned good work in an incredibly dangerous place. (Hell, I'll edit that out.) I just hope he comes back safe. It's what we hope for everyone there, whether they are in the military or not. Good luck to Justin, giddy. Keep D&D Civil!!
Good luck to him giddyup. I have friends whom have served/still serving in Iraq, I understand the difficulty/uncertainty of war.
Best of luck to your families, and may they return safely from their duties. My own nephew is in training in AZ right now. He ships for Iraq in March. He is in the marines. They thought he was going to go last March but his unit was split up and he ended up going to a different unit that wasn't shipped out to Iraq. This time the orders are final and only a complete withdraw from Iraq will keep him from going.
I applaud your nephew on his decision to serve his country. Good hunting. What branch is he in, if you don't mind my asking?
US Army. As I recall he joined up after we had engaged Afghanistan and Iraq, so he fully knew what he was getting into. I posted here many months ago that he had lost ~1/5th of his unit plus their sargeant that he had trained with. He's a strong, sweet boy from South Carolina.
I think he said that he would be patrolling in an area around Tikrit-- where they have a POW encampment. You stay safe...
Will definetly do that. I will be in Mosul. Hats off to the troops, they do it for little or nothing. Tell him to keep his head on a swivel. Tikrit is ruff. I wish I could post from their, I dont think I will as it is kinda forbidden.
