Jeffries is the most valuable guy on our roster for every trade it seems? Too bad other GMs dont see our brilliant plans unfolding.
Morey will get something done soon. Tomorrow will be Yao's decision to make another come back try after surgery or retire. Also, the league should be giving the team the medical exemption. This team is not in rebuild mode but retool on the fly model. I can't wait to see who the team will end with. GO ROCKETS!!
Nonsense. Your way is just too risky. It would bring the team farther from a championship, not closer. The "be so bad you get a high draft pick and then use it to get a franchise player" strategy more likely leads to numerous bad seasons before the team even gets to the point where it has as much talent as the current Rockets team does. The team recently made a great move, getting Terrence Williams, whose upside is huge, without having to tank or give up significant talent in return. If you tank and get that high draft pick, maybe the guy you pick ends up being as good as, say, Andre Igoudala or Gerald Wallace -- if you're lucky. Or maybe he ends up being a bust. There are talents the team can go after now (Cousins is an example) who stand as much of a chance of becoming and elite player as anyone you could draft, and you don't have to tank to get them. The "lose and rebuild" strategy is way too simplistic and plain foolish.
I think the Rockets are a center away from being competitive and a possible 50 + win team. The problem however, and many people here have said it, good talented centers are hard to come by. The one player that I think can cause such an impact and is actually realistically possible to acquire is Kendrick Perkins. He's young, defensive minded, was raised not too far from Houston (Beamount), and he has one year left on his contract. He's like Chuck Hayes with the height of an actual center (6-10). The one major obvious issue with Perkins is how he plays after knee surgery. If he returns to norm then I think the Rockets should definitely pursue. Of course, if he returns to norm I highly doubt the Celtics will let him get away so easily.
I agree with your whole point, I think you have nailed it. If we can get Landry and Dalembert then we are playing Lakers in West Conf. We can resign them both to fair deals next season too, along with Yao and Brooks. If we wanna take on a massive contract than we maybe able to do Haywood for Jeffries and Bud. At the worst we should get Randolph and Thabeet.. That way we are still players in trade market and FA market, while having some sort of help down low now and can expect greater things from them in the future.
Samuel Dalembert is your solution. There are NOT any other centres out there worth our time. He averages just under 2 blocks a game for his career in 26 mins. They are some decent numbers. Im assuming Sac would also be keen on trading him as Cousins continues to improve. Hes owed 13 mil this year but is a FA next year.. Sign him for around 5-6 mil next year and you will get at least 10/10/2.5 in 30mpg. He can run with our greyhounds as well
I agree with the OP 100%. They've been rebuilding since Morey came aboard. We are to flexible and have too many valuable assets to have to go into a full blown rebuild. We are are just a move or two and a dominate defensive center away fro being reloaded. I'd like to see only like 8-9 guys that see PT. and a C that can anchor the defense.
