Seconded. This is a great option. It is in the school's own interest to insure the child is ready. They can actually begin speech therapy before she is attending. This will help her integrate into the system slowly and not be overwhelmed. The schools have the most experience in dealing with these issues.

You're getting a late start, but waiting any longer will only subject your sister to more problems at school.

My daughter had a little girl in her kindergarden class that didn't talk to adults, only to her parents and a couple of friends...eventually she grew out of it...but I agree, a speech therapist or someone in that field should be sought...

What KC said might have been not classy but you have to admit that it is pretty hard to read the OP's posts when they are always in italics. Not only is it annoying to no end but just makes it incredibly hard to read and keep a running conversation going with the guy.

You know I really don't care if you want to bash me for posting in italics that never gets to me. But what I don't like is that this thread is about my little sister and its something serious and you had to come in and make a stupid joke. If thats all you had to say why even come in the thread, oh thats right it must make you feel better about yourself if you can get a few people to laugh with you.

I agree. There are times when we should all be serious. I'm just glad I stayed out of it this time.

Assuming this thread is legit, we are still on the internetz, you have people's sincere best wishes, you still post in italics, and his post was absolutely harmless.

Now, to add to the background of "she may be fine," I can share this. A friend of mine was well into 4+ before he spoke at all. He was riding in the car and said "It's a long time a brewing," as a full sentence, out of the blue. His family believes that he was aping a popular beer commercial at the time, but it's kind of an amazing story, given the context!

All best wishes to your sister and family. Agree with those that think it's worth pursuing.

Get over yourself. It's the interwebz. No one is talking badly about your sister. No one is wishing harm to your sister. I'm sure, like me, they all hope to heck that she will grow up healthy and happy and prosperous.
If it is so serious to you, you should not be posting it on a forum about a basketball team.

I honestly don't get the big deal with him typing in italics. It isn't like it is hard to read.

I understand the jokes about it but some seem seriously annoyed by it.

I'm with the OP. Look past the italics, y'all.

This thread is serious to him and a concern. It's not to be joking around about his little sister. :(

Some of us use ALL RESOURCES that are available to us.

 Don't hate the players. Hate the games. ;)

My little sister never said a word until she was four and a half.

Then one morning, out of the clear blue, she said, "The oatmeal is cold, can you heat this up in the microwave?"

I said, "Kimberley, you finally spoke. Why haven't you said anything before?"

She said, "Up until this morning, everything was going pretty well."

    I second this.

The OP has been told his italics are annoying time and time again, but 'doesn't care about what anyone thinks'.

It makes him look like an attention w****...which is magnified by the fact that he has to post personal information about his love life, his poems, and now he's bringing in his little sister who can't talk.

Sorry man, but you're posting this to a board of thousands of basketball fans that you've told 'you don't care what they think'...yet now we're suppose to take you seriously and not joke with you in the least bit because of yet ANOTHER personal situation that you need consultation/opinions for. Cmon.

So just don't read it or don't post in it. What's the problem? Can't stay away, can you? It's so difficult to read, isn't it? You just HAVE TO post, no? I see your point.

It doesn't sound like she is autistic. Autistic children have difficulty with social interaction and communication. Even paying attention to other adults is rare. If she has been making eye contact with family and looks like she's trying to communicate, then it's something else, either slow language development or a serious disorder besides autism. You don't need a specialist yet. Go see another primary care physician for a second opinion.

I'll take that advice when you stay away from people's spelling/grammar.

Are you speaking for everyone or just yourself?

If you would like for me to stay away from YOUR spelling/grammar, sir, then just ask. It's easy, really. Just ask.
