Exactly. You don't need to follow InfoSec processes unless you're at least a $100 billion company. Little ass $10 billion company need to sit down.

The site was Websensed for me and our IT has absurd restrictions on what we are able to do. So even with access there is some kind of restriction program that blocks me from uploading. Apparently uploading pictures to scary Picasa is a security risk.

Yeah, shouldn't most of that stuff be available to the user when they log in? Files redirected, printers set up, etc. Outlook would grab the account and automatically sync up the first time it's run as well.

The only thing I could see that would be a problem would be whatever small issue the user is having that would be seen under their profile - some browser or software issue for example - or maybe some sort of software where the client install has to be handled under each profile, I suppose.

On a completely unrelated note, those are against IT's policy.

If you have a procedure that can automatically restore Favorites, desktop items, My Documents, NK2 files, PST files, set default printers, etc., please let me know.

    Thanks :)

Well, that's what I was wondering. I believe you can set up policies on the server to redirect much of that stuff, but I could be wrong. I haven't worked much with it. But I believe desktop and documents would be recovered, say, when the user signs into their profile on a new machine for the first time. NK2 files could be a problem - though I don't think the newer Outlook uses that anymore. PST files in Exchange aren't stored on the local machine, IIRC.

I know there are expensive deployment tools out there like Altiris that can do that but we are a small company so we have to have the user log in to complete restores after a reimage.

Ugh, some of these posts make me shake my head.

If the network/system infrastructure and policy is designed and set up well enough, then there should almost never be a situation where an IT sysadmin has to ask a coworker for his or her password. I work for a small company and we usually don't have these kinds of issues. Granted, everyone's under one roof, which makes things easier.

We have a lot of experience with AppSense and RES so I'd be interested in seeing how this stacks up. Especially with regards to non-Microsoft techs like Citrix. I saw M$ pushing this at MMS but I want to see it IRL, not in their staged lab. While I may be wrong, I figure that it lacks the functionality of the products that have been around the block doing similar things.
