So the OP @thegary kept changing the thread title to try and bury his embarrassing thread?

I guess that's because he realized that people do care about Hunter's transgressions?

Another example of libertarianism bootlicking for the existing wealth hiearchy. Defend oil execs at all costs. Right @Os Trigonum?

Gotta show the hypocrisy of the non oil execs to show how benevolent the oil execs are?

    Hypocrisy of a F1 celebrity?

This must mean oil execs are the angels of our world.

Christie calls Hunter Biden investigation ‘either a lie or it’s incompetent’
    by Lauren Sforza

GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie weighed in on the investigation of President Biden's son Hunter Biden and the plea deal reached in the case, calling the probe as well as the U.S. attorney who oversaw it not truthful or incompetent.

"U.S. Attorney [David] Weiss has to explain himself and he has to explain himself in public," Christie told Shannon Bream on "Fox News Sunday. "You know, the fact is that this investigation of Hunter Biden in Delaware is either a lie or it's incompetent. There's no way that it should take five years to get to a two count misdemeanor tax plea and then to dismiss the gun charges."

Christie, himself a former federal prosecutor, also blasted Democrats for pushing for stricter gun laws while they "won't even enforce the gun laws that exist," adding that the president's son "should have been charged under those gun laws."

"So either David Weiss is incompetent in taking five years to do that, or he's not telling the truth. And [Attorney General] Merrick Garland is not telling the truth. Either way, there's a lot more work to be done on this case," Christie said.

Biden's son agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanors for failing to pay income taxes in 2017 and 2018. He also agreed to enroll in a pretrial diversion program for possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user or addicted to a controlled substance.

Many Republicans have railed against the plea deal made between Hunter Biden and federal prosecutors, with some pointing to former President Trump's recent federal indictment and calling it a double standard. Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 federal counts of mishandling classified documents and attempts to keep them from the government.

Christie launched his bid for the White House last month to join a growing number of GOP candidates willing to challenge former President Trump in 2024. He has also been a staunch critic of the former president since he lost the 2020 election.

    excerpt:

VILNIUS, Lithuania — The White House refused to comment Tuesday on the potential legal exposure for President Biden, first son Hunter and first brother James Biden after a US citizen was criminally charged for working as an unregistered agent of the same Chinese firm that paid the Biden family.

    ***
Gal Luft was charged Monday by the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office for allegedly violating FARA by accepting from CEFC China Energy at least $700,000 to his Maryland-based think tank, the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, in exchange for co-hosting conferences and attempting to influence a 2016 Donald Trump campaign adviser.

    ***
CEFC appears to have paid far more to the Biden family than to Luft — and both congressional Republicans and legal experts say the first son almost certainly violated FARA by failing to register as an agent of CEFC and other foreign employers.

Hunter Biden did not face any FARA charges in a probation-only plea deal announced last month for tax and gun charges.

    ***
The Chinese government-linked CEFC sent roughly $5 million to accounts associated with Hunter Biden within 10 days of a threatening July 30, 2017, text message to a Chinese in which the first son invoked his dad and threatened payback if an agreement was not fulfilled.

An Aug. 2, 2017, email retrieved from Hunter’s abandoned laptop said that CEFC chairman Ye Jianming offered a three-year consulting contract with CEFC that was to pay $10 million annually “for introductions alone.”

Former Hunter Biden business partner Tony Bobulinski says he personally met with Joe Biden in 2017 about the CEFC venture, and a May 2017 email from another Hunter Biden partner, James Gilliar, penciled in a 10% cut of proceeds for the “big guy,” whom both Bobulinski and Gilliar have identified as Joe Biden.

An October 2017 email from Hunter Biden’s laptop identifies Joe Biden as a participant in a call about CEFC’s attempt to purchase US natural gas.

CEFC reportedly sent $100,000 to Hunter’s law firm Owasco on Aug. 4, 2017, less than a week after the threatening text message.

CEFC also wired $5 million to the firm Hudson West III on Aug. 8, 2017, according to a 2020 report by two Republican-led Senate committees.

That entity in turn paid nearly $4.8 million in “consulting fees” to Owasco over the following 13 months, the report said.

A Washington Post review of Hunter Biden’s laptop documents last year found that James and Hunter Biden received at least $4.8 million from CEFC in 2017 and 2018.

The Biden family’s CEFC relationship appears to have started around 2015 — the same year as Luft’s — when Hunter connected with Vuk Jeremic, a former foreign minister of Serbia and president of the United Nations General Assembly who was running for UN secretary-general, while his dad was vice president.

In his threatening July 30, 2017, message, Hunter wrote to CEFC employee Raymond Zhao that he was “sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.”

“‘Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight,” Hunter allegedly wrote.

“And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.’”

Obviously revenge pron dick pics are a matter of protected speech and that NYPost and maga-Twitter were censored after bombarding the public space of them reeks of a government conspiracy At The Highest Levels...

I mean there are folks who still blame the media for exploding the Steele Dossier but I guess standards and practices over due diligence wasn't the core issue behind their complaints.

The FBI had a copy of the laptop for months before any of those people. If there are any differences, the FBI is in perfect position to show the changes.

Hey if you want to bury the thread just rename it something like “Republican policy initiatives”.

Other ideas may include “What do you expect us to talk about, our stance on abortion?”

Hunter Biden’s Prosecutor Keeps Dodging Congress
David Weiss’s letter to Congress doesn’t answer the crucial questions.
    By The Editorial Board
    July 10, 2023 at 6:20 pm ET

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss keeps insisting he had complete authority to charge Hunter Biden how and where he wished. So why is he so reluctant to answer questions from Congress?

In a Monday letter to Sen. Lindsey Graham, Mr. Weiss repeats his recent claim to House Republicans that he had ultimate “authority” to charge the President’s son, while also providing a few more details. Mr. Weiss says he never requested a special-counsel designation, but that he did have “discussions with Departmental officials” about a “potential appointment” as a special attorney.

The latter would have let him “file charges in a district outside my own without the partnership of the local U.S. Attorney.” He says “I was assured that I would be granted this authority if it proved necessary.” This conveniently gels with Attorney General Merrick Garland’s claim that Mr. Weiss never asked for special-counsel status but could have filed charges anywhere.

Yet those claims conflict with the testimony of IRS investigator Gary Shapley. The tax specialist says a team of IRS, FBI and DOJ officials last year were ready to charge Hunter with felony tax offenses in Washington, D.C., and California, but that Mr. Weiss told them in an October meeting that he’d been denied “special counsel authority from Main DOJ” and that he wasn’t “the deciding official on whether charges are filed.” Mr. Weiss last month settled the tax case in Delaware in a deal that will likely let Hunter escape jail time.

Mr. Weiss’s letter doesn’t say if that’s what he told Mr. Shapley and the others in October. It also doesn’t answer whether U.S. Attorneys appointed by President Biden blocked Mr. Weiss from filing charges against Hunter in their D.C. and California districts. That’s Mr. Shapley’s claim, and the New York Times reports that it has confirmed the California story.

That undermines Mr. Garland’s claim that the probe was free of political interference. If Mr. Weiss did have the freedom to ask for special-attorney privileges, why didn’t he pursue the charges that his team spent years investigating and recommended?

In his letter Mr. Weiss again refused to discuss anything further about his “ongoing investigation.” But if he’s settled the case, why is it “ongoing”? Congress is right to demand that Mr. Weiss answer its questions.

Appeared in the July 11, 2023, print edition as 'Hunter’s Prosecutor Keeps Dodging'.
