You can just tell he was so shy and embarrased after that failed dunk attempt, but I'm all for trading Ron Artest especially for Vince.

So that leaves what....Stephon Marbury? Ben Wallace? Can you think of any worse contracts?? Point being: the odds are slim-to-none.

This season is headed towards failure unless something changes quickly with the attitudes of these players.

    Here's another theory.

McGrady and/or the Rockets wanted the MRI done. McGrady and his people are worried that he may be traded (maybe there's a good reason for it, or maybe it's just them being paranoid). So they put out the word that there could be something seriously wrong with his knee to drive down the trade value. Even if the Rockets later deny it, that's still enough for other teams to think twice.

That's the best explanation I can come up with.

Yeah, the most likely explanation is probably correct. Occam's Razor:

"One should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed. This principle is often called the principle of parsimony. It admonishes us to choose from a set of otherwise equivalent models of a given phenomenon the simplest one."

Clearly, we love the excitement of exploring the alternate theories that have been so eloquently presented on this message board. However, I think T-Mac having a jacked-up knee is the most likely explanation to all of this drama.

I apologize -- I didn't mean for my comments to be taken as fact. I'm just throwing that out there as a "wouldn't surprise me". I know there is friction between T-Mac and Ron and if you listen to me when I go on 1560 I've been saying for almost a month that Artest is being shopped (heavily) and I still think he will be dealt before the deadline.

we can EASILY trade him b/c he's an expiring contract in a few years. the problem is do we want bad contracts back?

so it doesn't matter what the MRI says really. we're not going to trade him for anything valuable.

Very true. I remember Clutch bringing this up originally and surprising plenty of people long before the train ever derailed. Myself included.

If the MRI says he knee his completely shot, than the trade becomes less likely. It may be unlikely either way, but something that is unlikely can always be made more unlikely.

With a broken down McGrady....I still don't know why they would trade Artest

All my years on the board reading opinions and speculations from respected posters, popular long timers, "99'ers" and a few insiders:

they could always use him as an expiring contract for 2010. so really, if i was a trading partner building for 2010, it doesn't matter what the MRI says.

he was not going to be traded anyways.

b/c if the MRI shows nothing new, it means it's all mental. and if they can help tracy get over that hump, he'll play at least to last year's level which is still very good.

artest just doesn't fit this team in what we're trying to do.

Because the same team that won 22 in a row last year and was being touted as having one of the best chemistries in the league with no locker room issues is now the complete opposite. The only difference is we lost a 36 year old PG and replaced him with Brent Barry (who by the way is not known to be a team chemistry killer, quite the opposite). Otherwise, Artest is the only difference between last year and this year.

That's at least what I think they are thinking.

i'm kind of 50-50 right now, my first thought was mcgrady was definitely gone, but now im thinking who the hell would want this guy?? Morey is smart not to trade him for garbage but that seems like the only thing we can get for tracy right now. No way in hell we get vince for him, if anyone gets traded its artest.

Agreed. the problem now is where do you go in the next 8 days. If you trade ron without getting a star back, you better have assurances mcgrady will be ready to resume star level play. I'm not sure there is a good deal to be made either.

Personally, if Artest is here on Feb 20, the first thing that must be done is getting the two of them to resolve differences and put them aside for the last two months and the potential playoff games.

Which, if Tracy's career is any indication, is rolling over in the first round every year.

how come bill worrell just said tracy might be out for a couple of games, maybe more?

if sitting this one out is just a precautionary measure?
