I believe it works like this: Publications don't make their money off of subscriptions and newsstand sales, but rather through advertising. Thus the more magazines they put in consumer hands, the more they can charge advertisers. Advertisers will pay the higher price tag knowing that they're ads are being seen by more people. Thus there is nothing to be skeptical about. Just know you are a pawn in the hands of big business. However for a chance to look at free celebrity t*tties, it ain't a bad thing.

I must have around 15 free magazine subscriptions that come to my apartment now. Every month (week, actually), our little magazine basket in the bathroom gets overfilled with the likes of Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, Stuff, Maxim, Forbes, Entertainment Weekly, EGM, GamePro, Men's Fitness, Men's Journal, Razor, New Yorker, etc. It's ridiculous. If you check the "Free Stuff" forum over at Fatwallet , every once in a while you'll find some free subscriptions for some good magazines. And YoYao, I did find a free Playboy sub link a few months ago, so maybe it'll resurface sometime soon...
Is it all legit, like no annoying stuff in the mail, strange people knocking on your door, etc. If it is I guess its all for the advertising, I tried the Forbes one so i'll see what happens.
Just wondering...has anyone gotten their Maxim yet? I've gotten 2 issues of Stuff, but no Maxim. Not that I'm complaining too much, but the free Maxim would rock too!
I haven't gotten anything. Maybe it's because the mail service doesn't like delivering stuff not by my name. They haven't delivered anything for Ms. Se Xualpervert or Mr. Tak Eitoff. I wonder...
I think I get a few telemarketer calls, but aside from that, I'm not really bothered when taking out free subscriptions. No one knocks on my door. (Then again, no one can because I live in a doorman highrise building...)
I have the same deal as Vecey, got EGM, Gamepro, Gamenow, SI, Sporting news, Maxim, Stuff, Blender, Razor, Men's Journal, and E-Gear. Most of them are free for a year while Im getting Stuff, Blender, and Maxim free till like 2008 I think cause these giveaways always come up, sign up, and they extend my subscription. As for telemarketer calls, I only got one from Stuff and that was a satifaction survey, and just told them to call me back next year cause I was going to be out of the country. I did get a few "renewel" letters, but I just discarded them.
Oh yeah! I forgot about Rolling Stone, Blender, E-Gear, and Movieline. Plus, I just signed up for FHM today, too. Unfortunately, my sub to Wired ended a few months ago. I miss it. (Surprise, surprise! My fiancee and I just cleaned out our magazine basket tonight... again... )
