    My second session

I was nervous but this time I threw a lot more jabs, at one point six jabs in a row. The other guy caught me with some of his jabs but when he tried to flurry I picked my hands up and blocked most of them. In the third he got some good shots on me I hit my gloves together and told him hit me some more so he did that was a bad idea. In the fourth I had a new game plan I began to hit and move like Paulie Malignaggi and Cory Spinks. It makes for an ugly fight but you have to do what you have to do nobody likes getting hit.

You sound like you don't enjoy the sport. Nobody likes getting hit. Learning how to dish is one thing. Learning how to take a hit is a different game.

Well getting hit is part of the sport so you better get used to it. It sounds like you did a better job and are starting to get the hang of it. Keep going and good luck on your further sparring.

I can take a hit but if I can use my legs to avoid it I will. No point in going to war if you don't have to. At some point it may happen but best to hit and not get hit that is what boxing is really about. The sweet science.

That is very true but I hope you are hitting as much as you're not getting hit. You can dance all you want but if you're not landing much, what's the point, right?

    Sparring session 5

Funnest one yet. I got my regular partner Carlos he knows how to work with me in the first round my trainer was yelling at me because I was being too defensive I was too worried about blocking and slipping his punches instead of throwing mine so after about 30 seconds I said hell with it and let my hands go. He landed a good amount of flurries too so it was fun. Second round I hit him with two 1-2's and knocked his headgear off. He turned it up at that point and got me with a good amount of flurries and we were going back and forth. Third round I was dead tired and holding on for dear life but I still tried to throw punches they just didn't have any snap to them anymore. Overall very fun session I'm starting to fight back instead of just letting myself get hit. Some things I need to work on

    1. Circle more. I hit him admire my work and get hit right back. I should either move with my jab or pivot after throwing a combination, and just keep moving in general. Stationary targets get figured out, movement causes confusion.
    2. Sit down on my punches. I have good height and strong legs if I snap my punches properly I could be a dangerous puncher. Right now I'm Paulie Malignaggi without the good balance.
    3. Close my hands when throwing. This will help my power too.
    4. Utilize my height and reach. I have the best reach in the gym if I use it right with the jan nobody should be able to get in on me. Also that means I don't have to move forward unless I want to.
    5. Work on feints. He began to block my jabs so I can feint the jab into a check left hook or a lead right, provided I bring my hands back fast enough after throwing.

I'm a little late on arrival on this thread but where can I get started for someone who never laced up a pair of gloves in his life.. I'm highly interested in boxing...

Locate a boxing/fight gym near you. I've found that usually these places are more than willing to give you a free session or two and are encouraging as well (they want your money).
