Where is the pound located? Is the pound the same thing as the shelters? I'm heading out to some of the shelters after 3 so would like to know before I go. Thanks
No - the pound is the city "shelter" where your dog gets three days before it's killed. If you live in any area that is surrounded by other "cities" (The Memorial Villages/Bellaire, etc.) check with them too. The real shelters: Humane Society, SPCA, CAP, etc. buy you more time - you can check in with them by phone & they are usually good - but GO TO the city pound daily...

Thanks a lot Da-Glyde. So some good news and some bad news. I spent the last 2.5 hours combing the neighborhood talking to anyone walking around the street and posting signs. I finally ran across this one family that said they saw Max. They noticed him because they had been looking for a small dog themselves, but said that a young male had picked the dog up and brought them to this one house that he pointed out. I rushed to the house as fast as I could and sure enough it was the house I was afraid to pass by earlier because it had 3 pretty aggressive pit bulls in there. They're outside and pouncing at the gate trying to get at passerby's. Needless to say me and my 2nd dog Belle were terrified but I had to go up there considering the new information I had just received. When the door opened it was two fairly young males and I asked them if they had seen my dog because a neighbor had indicated that they saw a young male take him over to this house. They said they haven't seen him at all and that they wouldn't pick him up because he would never get along with their pitbulls. They seemed very uncooperative by saying things like "Do we look like young kids?" and "why don't you go post some posters or something" in a very condescending voice. I think I might have gotten their attention though when I gave them the flyer and they saw REWARD on there. Hopefully if they do have him, that he's safe and they didn't grab him so he could fight the pit bulls cuz I know those dogs would tear him apart considering how they wanted to get to me through that gate. I'm happy that he's close by but I'm sad to think that they might be in these guys' possession. I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on that house though. Don't know what else to do. I put some of the flyers in their neighbors houses and hopefully maybe they will have a lead of some sort.
Call one of those telephone numbers that Da-Glyde posted. They can offer the best advice now that you have collected some more information that is possibly useful in getting some answers...
Thats bad news. I've heard of people capturing stray dogs just to throw them in with their pitt bulls to train them to fight. Hopefully this is not the case. If it were me and there was a chance that my dog was either in that house or had been used for the pitt bull fighting, i'd kick in their door fully armed and hold them hostage until I got answers. I'm not advising you do this, I can be pretty irrational sometimes.
It's so hard. My gut tells me I need to call animal police and inform them of what I know, but at the same time I feel I need to wait it out so that I'm for sure they have my dog before I accuse them of anything. If they are the shady characters I believe them to be then it could be a real difficult situation when accusations are made. I'm hoping they take the high ground and go for the reward. I just need to make it known that I'm willing to dish out almost whatever it takes. I busted out the nightvision today but their house has no windows and it's so dark behind their gates that even the nightvision with little to no light was able to see anything. Tomorrow I'm busting out the high powered binoculars during the day, maybe even the supertelephoto lense on the camera and pretending to do nature photos, but damn it I have to know!
I hope not too because there isn't much max can do to fight back. He's like 1/4th their size. They'd eat him for lunch though max has been known to outquick and outsmart some of the pits I've confronted but none of them were trained to kill.
I say call the police...usually when I get gut feelings, Im most of the time right. They cant get away with it...and if your lucky and the police investigate, maybe they can recover some of the drugs they have to have. Good luck
If they were several neighborhoods down I'd be all over it but it's difficult when these people can easily find out where you live and make your life a living hell. They already are but it's hard to stir the hornets nest. Tomorrow I'm going to get a confirmation from the family that saw Max taken to that house, and then ask for advice from HPD or animal police and inform them of what I've gathered. I just have to be very careful with this situation, but I can't help that every minute counts. Damn it I miss the pooch
UPdate: Damn house is so hard to scope out. now all of a sudden the 3 pit bulls are gone. That's a bit worrisome. I went door to door and passed out as many flyers as possible. No additional leads. Vet did ease the worry a bit though. She indicated that i wouldn't have to worry about max being harmed by the other dogs because if the dogs were aggressive to other dogs there'd be no way the 3 dogs could co-exist with one another. Today I'm making bigger posters similar to those Vote for (insert your favorite politician here) signs and putting those on multiple intersections and neighborhoods. Those should be much easier to see. No luck at the shelters as of yet. I went to the one on Almeda and nothng there. I will check out another one tomorrow and more this weekend. Getting some help from my brothers to go door to door as it took me just about 1.5 hours just to cover 2 blocks. So tiresome. I hope something turns up soon. Any other suggestions guys?
Damn, I saw this thread was back up and was hoping you'd have some good news. Continue with the updates man. Good luck and don't lose hope!
Sorry to hear about your dog biggie. I've got a two year old, broken coat jack russell myself (same markings white, with black mask and spot on his ass). I don't know what I'd do if Dexter went missing. good luck!
I know it's a common combination but where did you get your jack? The family i got mine from, the entire litter was like that. Very interesting parents the litter came from.
From a family on Long Island! Dex was from a litter of three. He was the only broken coat. The other two were smooth coats. here's a pic http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mmcgriff2003/detail?.dir=/d97c&.dnm=9f2are2.jpg&.src=ph
Good luck finding your dog. I was going to bump this thread up this morning to see if there was any news.
Damm, I just saw this thread and been reading it all the posts to see if you found him. Sorry that you haven't had any luck. I lost my gf's beagle when she came to stay at my parent's and was VERY lucky that a pet lover found her and took care of her. It seems like you're doing everything you can do. Keep calling the Vetenerian hospitals (ask if anyone has reported a missing dog like yours and leave your contact info with a description of it with them). I found Jasmine that way, a woman called reporting she found a puppy beagle and they gave me her number. The other thing I did was PRAY! I prayed so much that I would find her. I know it's weird to do so for an animal but they become part of your life too. Prayer has an amazing power. As far as those dudes who may have your dog, that's really unfortunate! I hope that the reward will encourage them to give you Max back. If the neighbor says they have it then they probably do. Let us know how it turns out.
