....lets not forget, Cat ran the point for us his Rookie year, and didn't do a terrible job. Maybe that's a possible spot if our 4 players we have now can't get it done. Or like has been suggessted a lot already, when JJ contract runs out, move T-Mac to the 3 and play Cat at 2....nothing wrong with that......Cat hitting open three's off T-man and Yao kick outs off double teams....where is the downside?

I'm not sure Mobley can get his big payday. He'll be 30 when his contract expires. Jason Richardson is a comparable player to Mobley, is a big younger, and didn't get much more than the MLE.

It's unlikely that Mobley will sign with the Rockets, but I think you're overestimating his value if you think teams will clear chuncks of cap space just to sign someone like him. Most likely, hockey guy will sign him to an extension when his contract's up due to bird rights. But if he's on the market, it's probably going to be a 6 year deal at the MLE(provided the upcoming CBA doesn't change much)

Boki is going to sow up the SF position soon (this season or next).....and with TMac at the SG position there won't be room for The Catman unless he is willing to take 2-3 million to backup Tmac and Boki.

Are you thinking of Quentin Richardson. Because J-Rich is still on his rookie contract.

I would love to see the Cat back, but it won't happen for 2 reasons.

    1) The Rockets won't be able to (or just plain won't) offer him the kind of money that he can probably get from other teams.

    2) The more important reason... JVG will still be the coach. During one of JVG's radio interview in the off-season (prior to the TMac trade), he complemented every player except Cat. JVG said that the problem with the team was we have player(s) that make too many TO and the problem won't go away unless we change player(s). When the host asked "Is that because our PG (Francis) is not a true PG?" JVG went on defending Francis and blah blah blah...

Well, the players that we've removed from the team are Francis, Cat, and Cato. JVG defended Francis :)rolleyes: ), Cato doesn't touch the ball much, then that leaves Cat. JVG also made a comment something to the affect that Cat doesn't practice enough.

IMO, JVG does not care to have Cat back.

Good call, that's my first memory or him playing really. Was that against the Warriors? Well anyway dude was a Rocket. It'd be cool to do something to get him back but if we start winning I'll forget about him pretty quick.

I would love to have him back, were it possible.
Of course if that happened, it would drive Clutch stark, raving mad!

though Cat has a player option next season I can see him opting out to re-sign with the magic for a larger contract, but I dont think he would opt out just to re-sign here again. I would love to have cat back on the team and I am all for giving him the contract he deserves if the team can afford it but i think he will stay in orlando with SF and Cato. if howard develops and hill is healthy they will have a winning team there so he wouldnt really have any true reason to leave

Yeah it was the Warriors. I still remember that it was Barkley that got the assist and afterwards said if he had known that it was Mobley he wouldn't have passed it to him or something to that affect (basically saying you're a rookie, you can't be hitting game winning shots!)

I'll always remember a game at Dallas in Cuttino's rookie year. He had a nasty breakaway dunk and also hit a 3 from half court at the buzzer!

JVG had to defend Francis, he was looking to trade him. You don't want to undersell your assets.

Cat's value around the league is well known these days.

Where is the consistency? Everyone raved about JVG being a straight shooter when criticizing the players, but now he is not underselling his assets? Trades can occur during the season too, why wasn't he preping up his assests then?

I am sure everyone knew they were dangling Cat as well for trade, why didn't JVG prep him up? Not once during that interview, while Cato, MoT, Francis, JJ, and even Boki got praised.

It doesn't matter what Cat's value is in the market, if JVG don't care to have him, Cat won't be back. IMHO, Cat won't be back as long as JVG is here. With all that said, I don't have a problem with that if JVG can build a good competitive team even though I liked having Cat here during the last 6 years.
