Depends how loud you yell. And how close you are to them. And at what speed you're getting closer.

gr8-1, I'm thinking of adopting. If you're putting one up for adoption and you live in Austin, we should talk. Email me if you're serious. I'm definitely interested.

If you send your cats away to the Humane Society get ready for haunted kitty dreams for the rest of your life. The distant meow in the night will be like a dagger in your soul, man!

This totally worked with our cats. Also, the water pistol idea has worked. Just make sure you squirt them when they least expect it.

'nother tip: our cats didn't like the scratching posts either, but you can buy these CHEAP cardboard "catscratchers" that just sit on the ground. Just stick 'em some place out of the way, but your cats will go nuts schreding them.

Last tip: cats calm down if you confine their space for a few minutes. Maybe not as confined as Trader J suggests. But sometimes I throw our obnoxious male in the bathroom for a while and close the door. In 5 minutes he's taking a nap and he stays unhyper for a while after that.

TG: I am so sorry to have ever read that. I was mad at first, but now I just feel sorry for your friend and for you for suggesting it. That is just awful. :(

gr8-1: There are plenty of options for you if you can't handle them. Our vet takes and adopts cats out for us. There are no-kill shelters. There are adoption programs where you foster the cats until they have a home.

Don't just drop them off somewhere. There are lots of people who would be more than happy to take care of them.

people who declaw cats either just got married and capitulated to a non-cat lover spouse, or they simply are not cat lovers, imo. And everyone who's done it, spare me you "They are indoor cat" philosophies...I could care less. I am a cat lover. Cat's love climbing outside.

declawing a cat is like taking Charlton Heston's guns away from him.

Just get a dog. I've always wanted a dog.

I think that's inhumane. It's like chopping off the first 3rd of their fingers.

Nomar, would love a dog, but I can barely care for my cats.

Thanks all. I'll just deal with it in my own way. My cats better hope that chicken I have out defrosts quick, or one of them is dinner.

Agreed. I've had all sorts of pets, but dogs are the best, especially big dogs. One of our cats has picked up on my preference and he now plays fetch. Humiliating maybe, but kind of funny.

Tyrone insisted on waking me up again this morning.

They also get litter everywhere? Will they grow out of that? Also, they get hair all of my clothes. Any remedies for that?

You're going to end up in an asylum if you ever have children.

You are cracking me up. If you let them get you out of bed, you are doomed. Get earplugs, or whatever, but stay in bed until YOU want to get up. They'll learn that one and leave you alone. As for the hair, all you can do is brush them and/or crank up your AC. Seems like they shed a lot more when they're hot.

And I agree that kids will put you in an asylum. Dog might be good though. Dog wants to make you happy. Cat wants to make itself happy, wants to train you.
