thanks everyone! it means so much to hear everyone's kind words. it really makes me feel better. I do love that cat. here are a couple of pics I wanted to share. Surfguy, yes, we did lose another cat this past year to strange cirumstances. Just never came home. The cat was about 6 years old and she just disappeared one day, no trace. That hurt... CBFC, I'm doing all I can to make this a mellow weekend. Everyone, yes we are going to do our best to keep Reva indoors, but it's gonna be tough since she's so used to being outside, maybe IF she does go outside it will be just in our yard and while we are out with her... I couldn't bear to have this happen again... thanks again everyone, honest and sincerely.
I feel for you. I hope things work out perfectly for you. Getting hit by a car is bad enough but then when I read that there was intentional intent. I was piss off. Good Luck
rockHEAD -- I am so so sorry that this happened. I can't begin to tell you how upset I was to hear about it. Because I know what a wonderful person you are, I have no doubt that Reva will receive the very best of love and care during her recovery. She'll be in my thoughts.
Simply awful. Rub her tummy for me. Given what happened with your last cat I'm sure you appreciate that you got her back! (silver lining!)
rockHEAD...glad to hear she's allright. buy here a utah jazz chew toy so she can claw it to pieces...
RH -- thanks for posting the pictures. I will certainly be praying for her. I don't understand why people could be so cruel. I would keep her inside from this point onward. We used to let our cats outside, but because of fears of them getting hit by cars and mean people, we moved them inside, and it was fantastic. It takes a tiny bit of time to get used to it, but most cats adjust great.
reva, I hope you are doing better... rockHead, I hope the person that has done this... .nevermind, I am so furious right now. My wife let the girls out on the porch (no access to the ground) Wednesday morning and that night around 7:30ish I tried to bring the girls in. I couldn't find Marta (and it doesn't help that she doesn't always come if she's cozy in some random place). I couldn't find her anywhere... and went to the ground level (only about 13' down or so) and searched and searched and searched... I was preparing to pull out the sleeping bag to wait on her to come to me (I seriously feared horrible things; there's a guy that is eviscerating cats in our neighborhood) when I decided to search for a little while longer (my neighbors probably thought I was a nut, b/c I was all over the place, crying her name and nearly crying myself). I happened across a broken down garage a few yards away when one more call.... 'Marta' gave me that return... that beleaguered call from my girl. I found her behind a door leaned-to the side of the garage, completely terrified and filthy. I "hugged her and squeezed her" all night (I had been searching for ~4 hours). I hope your girl gets better rockHead so that you can experience that simple joy of knowing your loved one is okay.
that's so cool CBFC!! thanks... Reva is doing good. The vet says she's doing the best she can, very resilient. But I worry she's not getting enough fluids... they said they would go 'acute' if she wasn't. basically they would just shoot her up with fluids. but she's having a hard time eating and drinking since she bit a hole through her tongue when she got abused. I get weak typing about it.... i hate not being able to see her today (sunday), but your pics CBFC, have cheered me up a bit!! That is so cool of you and your cats to do for us!! Thanks, bro!
man rockHEAD, I haven't read this since the first notice. So, in the spirit of CBFC getting his girls to take a moment to think about Reva...I wanted to make sure Ibid and Mollie took a moment to count their blessings, too Here's a picture when I was telling them the story. See how unsettled it made them to hear about Reva. It unsettled them enough that I felt bad, so I gave ibid some catnip and Mollie too much food. That made them happy again. And now they are passed out in bliss. Here's to Reva in bliss again, soon!! rH is da man.
UPDATE it wasn't a car, it wasn't a bb, it wasn't a kick, it was a .22!! Someone shot my cat with a f**king .22 caliber gun!! THE FREAKIN' NERVE OF SOME PEOPLE!!! I am so pissed right now. ARGH!!! WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SHOOT A CAT!! I AM SO PISSED!! I got a call from the vet, they went back in and did some surgery, cause she was still swollen and something wasn't right, the did some exploratory on the other side and found a .22 slug. I will get more info when I go visit her after work today. Will report back later!!
don't ban me for face posts please. i am trying to be supportive. and I really like cats. Looking forward to good Reva news soon.
A friggin' .22?!?!! Dammit, the cruelty of some people is unbelievable! If I were you I'd put up posters asking for information about the shooting. Then again, if someone is shooting a .22 in your neighborhood it may be time to look into moving. I am so angry right now!!! Keep us posted, please.
Fact: This thread was horrific from the first post. Fact: It got exponentially worse when it became clear that the injury was inflicted intentionally. Fact: A .22 on a cat is beyond my conceptual framework of horror. Fact: Someone in your neighborhood is a sociopath and could probably benefit from the feeling of a .22 slug. Fact: Your cat needs to get better as soon as possible. Fact: I am still very upset about this. Fact: I check this thread 50 times a day. And you know...If I might add one seemingly overlooked fact: Say dude, your cat is a BAD ASS. I'm sorry, but any creature who can take a .22 and make it this far -- not to mention years and years more, as will be the case -- is an indestructible force of nature, one which must be bowed before. And this is a (presumably) 12-ish pound CAT we are talking about. I mean, come on, this cat has a purpose much larger than that of your typical housepet (noble as that it is...). She is here to save us all. She will get better. She will eat solid foods again. She will nap comfortably again. She will poop on rH's valuables again. Is she at Sunset Animal Clinic? I am betting there is some weird biblical halo of energy around wherever she is right now. Wish I was in Houston to witness the fireworks when this creature finally recovers. I'm psyched. CBFC
rockHEAD, I just read this thread, and now I know why I usually avoid these types of threads. I'm so sorry to hear about your cat and the scary neighbors you must have. I was teary eyed when I read the start of this thread, but now that I've read it all the tears are following. I wish I would have wanted until I got home to read this thread. I can't believe someone would be so cruel as to shoot someone's pet. I hope your other cat didn't suffer a similar fate. May Reva recovery quickly, and I'm so sorry you have to go through this. B
the house is already on the market (it has been for almost a year) I'm trying to get the heck out... --- thanks again for everyone's concern's. I talked to the HSPCA, they recommended filing a report with HPD. So I called and am now awaiting their arrival. I talked to the vet and the slug went in up near the right side around/near the temple/jaw area and and lodged in reva's left side jaw, shattering it as it lodged. I have the slug. A cruel reminder. Reva is actually looking good. She ate Sunday and had a real appetite today. The vet and vet techs are very impressed with her (me too). Her motor skills and ability to function are superb and they are expecting a full but slow recovery. The vet said she used 2 of her 9 lives!! I don't think there will be much more to report until she comes home, so I let this topic rest. Thanks again for your concerns. You folks are the nicest bunch of people I've never met!! rH
