Sorry for the loss. I lost my cat in February. We actually thought he was going to die before last Christmas. He had a tumor in his digestive tract and wasn't eating. He got really thin and had to be force fed medication. Surprisingly he survived and started regaining weight. My mom had him put to sleep in February and didn't tell me. I was away at college and was coordination a jazz festival. It was stressful to me and she didn't want to add to it. The next time I came home I asked her where Tiger was and she told me she had put him to sleep. I half expected it and wasn't really surprised. I knew his end was near. He was 14 and had been with us since birth. His mother was a stray we had taken in a few years earlier. She had a litter of 7 and we kept one and gave the rest away. We recently got some new additions. I have been petless for the first time in 21 years so we got 2 new kittens. They're Ragdolls and they're sisters. They're 12 weeks old and we've had them for a week. They're starting to warm up to us.
Sounds like you're handling everything perfectly, giddyup. They seem to be taking it well. I absolutely hate cats, but when my mom's 18 YO cat died a couple years ago I couldn't stop crying for a couple days. It's just sad when pets pass - I guess the companionship and familiarity of it all is lost. I will be SO sad when my little sh-itzapoo Taffy croaks...he'll be 14 in March.
Ha ha pretty close. It's a Star Wars reference. I think young Anakin asked Qui Gon Jin about midichlorians when Qui Gon was explaining the mysteries of the "living force" to the young lad. May the force be with you and your family.
We just buried Callie out in the back yard at the edge of the woods. My 5- and 7-YO daughters helped me to dig the grave. Everyone told a favorite Callie story and we laid her to rest wrapped in an old bath towel.
thats a cool way to bury your cat. and sorry for misreading your original post. i think having pets and having this kind of experience will make your children into more rounded and kind, loving people.
Sorry for your loss bud. If you need a cat there is a kitten at Noah's Ark animal hospital on west Alabama near Kirby. It has all it's shot and everything. We would adopt it but our other cat will hurt it so we can't. My wife says it is really nice and reaches through the crate they have there to touch people as they pass by.
Hang in there, giddyup. I lost my 19-year old calico "Little Bit" a few years ago (not to old age, the old broad was hit by a car ... loved that cat).
