are dropping really low lately when i'm idle. Any know why? It's a 2002 Honda Accord. I'm gonna take it to the dealership next week to have it checked out. But, maybe someone can tell me waht's wrong and I can just fix it myself, if it's not gonna cost much that is.
well i guess ill post a question i have in here instead of starting another thread i had an accident the other day and i have liability insurance but i dont want my insurance to pay for it because it would make my rates go up can i pay for it myself or will the body shop make my insurance pay for it and i probably don't have enough to pay damages all at once so i was hoping to make payments if thats possible does anybody know
well since people are posting car problems i've got one too. 2 days ago i noticed my car began to stutter when i would accelerate after sitting idol at a stop sign or stop light. Once it shifts out of first gear its drives perfect. Any ideas?
Just like his RPM problems, it could be several things: dirty fuel injectors dirty fuel filter dirty air filter may need new plus and/or wires may have a bad O2 sensor I would start out by adding a fuel injector cleaner into your next fill up and use a high grade gasoline for at least 2 tanks. See if that makes it better.
I had an uncle take a look at it yesterday and he thought it was one of 2 things, a bad cv joint or a dirty fuel injector. I'll pick up some cleaner today and see how it goes. I already fill up with premium gas
What year is your car? How many miles? A CV joint would have nothing to do with RPM and acceleration problems.
1991 Ford Escort, approx 173,000 miles on it. I'm not sure why he brought up the cv joints either. Just got back from Autozone, picked up a can of B12 and stuck it in the gas tank. Hopefully that'll do the trick, just have to wait and see.
CV joint has to do with your drive axle. If a CV joint goes bad, you will hear a grinding noise when you turn. When is the last time you did plugs and wires?? Fuel filter?? Air filter??
plugs and wires were replaced in December of 03. At that time my car couldn't accelerate at all. It would take literally 30 to 45 seconds just to get it up to 35, 40 mph. We replaced the plugs and wires which ended up being temporary, the problem resurfaced 2 weeks later and ended up costing 800 bucks to fix. not sure about the filters
thought about it and they've both been replaced within the past year. The fuel filter was replaced last summer and the air filter was changed in the fall.
JPM- Don't take this the wrong way. But after you do all these things, at the end of the day, it still is a Ford Escort with 170K+ miles on it. Again, there's nothing wrong with that, but just remember the amount or wear you have on your engine by now. Good luck!
Believe me i know, i bought it 3 years ago when it had 136,000 miles on it. Since then its had to have engine work ($800), had to rebuild the transmission ($1,500), had to the replace the waterpump, timing belt and a few other minor things. I just need it to last another year or so then i'll be able to dump it for something built this decade.
ugh... not again, last August i took it down to My Mechanics off of Jones road to get it inspected and i had "emmissions problems".
I know My Mechanics over on Jones. They are pretty reputable. Did you get those emission problems fixed?
yes, they did a great job. The problems stimmed from the shotty work of Thunderbolt. My car hasn't been the same since i got it back from them.
It could still be an emmissions problem, maybe with a part they didn't replace. They only other thing I could think of, is that maybe you have a partially blown head gasket.
i don't know if this will make any difference but i can pinpoint exactly when this started. I was behind a slow car, i pretty much floored it to get around, about a minute later i pulled up to a stop sign and that was the first time the trouble began.
