    How ironic,

I just bought a Lexus GS300 yesterday. Its also a 2003 and I was thinking the same thing. However although its still decent acceleration its not what I would expect from a sports sedan. Its OK for me b/c its not like I'm going to race the thing. However if yours is anything like mine "extremely slow" seems a bit exaggerated. "Not what I would expect from a Lexus sports sedan with 25,000 miles" is something else.

Maybe its the new gas with 10% ethanol. I noticed a drop in performance after I filled up my tank with this new gas....gaaaaah

Is yours solely from accelerating from a stop, or is it always? Mine isn't that bad once the car gets going, but it seems awful when I am starting from zero.

I guess I am thinking mine is so bad because I think the acceleration was better when I bought it. Since you are having the same problem, I guess these cars just aren't that fast when you start from stop. I have recently driven a Chevy Malibu and a Hyundai Sonata and both would burn my Lexus. Maybe I'm just going nuts :)

That' s a very real possibility as well. I didn't start noticing the acceleration drop until I filled up. Maybe Lexus doesn't use the 10% ethanol gas and that is why I thought it was faster.

I've heard that alot of the non-big name gas stations did not scrub there tanks before adding the new gas. If there was water in the tanks, it binds with the ethenol and makes for bad gas.

Depending on how slow "really slow" is it could also be a really expensive transmission problem.

Get your injectors cleaned out. Is the tranny shifting smoothly? If not, it is a likely a transmission issue.

Pull the floor mat out from underneath the gas pedal. Seriously, this happened to a friend of mine. When I drove his car, I pulled the floor mat back. He drove it, then asked me what I did, because it was twice as fast now!

Make sure you're in "D" and not "2" or "3".

does it have a throttle body?
If the car has miles on it, the throttle body may have grim and dirt and won't allow the throttle plate to open freely.

it's easy to clean with a can of throttle body cleaner. just dont spray too much in the intake..assuming it has all this.

As long as there is no service engine light on, this shouldn't happen, unless you put crappy gas...Try burning up all the gas and then fill it up with premium and put in STP fuel injector cleaner. Mine did that a week ago and I did this...

If it still persists, go to the dealership as depending on miles, there may need to be maintenance...Is it a 6 cyl. or v8?

I've actually cleaned my throttle body...My service engine light came on, blah, blah blah, $1000... They put a new one in, did the same thing, I told them to put the old one in (after I cleaned it at my house). turns out it was a fuel sensor ($100)...

Unless you have an IS or SC, Lexus doesn't have that great of acceleration IMO. My family owns a couple Lexus vehicles and none of the them have great acceleration, except the IS and SC of course.

What else do you expect from a Toyota?

You want turn heads when driving, no, you're not going to get it, and now, you want speed too? Too bad, you're not going to get it.

Toyota is known for reliablity, so it's a lot more reliable and safer to drive slow.

The GS300 was the weaker of the GS's when it came out... the one with the sweet engine was the GS400. But, that being said, the GS300 should give you 0-60 times in the mid-to-upper 6's, I think.

gucci888... the lexus GS400/GS430 has always been a pretty fast car. It's always gotten 0-60 times in the upper 5's. The older IS's were the cars that were lame... pay $30k+ for family sedan speed. ;) The new IS's are sweet.

I had a old GS300 and it was pretty weak, I think it may have been a 93 or 94. I bought a IS right when they first came out and I thought they were plenty fast. Those were my highschool days so I was speeding all over the place, I got into a couple wrecks as well. I was zipping all over town in the IS.

The new IS's are really nice. I don't think I would buy another one though. Not a big fan of the new GSs as well, I don't really like the new style all that much.

The ES doesn't have a whole lot of zip either, but it drives really nice IMO.
