The area across I-35 from that neighborhood can be dicey. Riverside is lined with a lot of apartment complexes and crime can be a problem. Travis Heights itself, however, on the west side of the highway, has been a high dollar neighborhood for many years now. Could be a case of bad luck, maybe he was mistaken for someone else, wrong place at the wrong time? Regardless, the police reaction is bizarre, the opposite of what I would expect. Very odd.
crime in austin is getting worse and worse. glad your brother is ok. if this is a true story (according to king)
Travis heights does also border on what was always the seedy part of south congress. Its improved a bit but there’s still some riff raff over there. Travis Heights is high dollar but its always had issues with crime because of what surrounds it.
Yeah Austin crime like this would be the top news on KXAN or the front of the Statesman Travis Heights is full of rich hipsters And most people just jog ladybird lake which you know @Deckard were there witnesses? Lots of people jog on the trails The trails are usually not too close to street traffic maybe under the bridge off north mo pac near Lake Austin Blvd also isn’t it 103 in Austin ? @King1 @Reeko
this is a woman for sure. Compare how she writes and responds to deb4rockets and note how easily she gets upset
So got to sleep on it and admittedly I posted emotionally yesterday. I was in a rather distraught place. Responses on my personal social media/reddit/other forums were largely kind and helpful. This was the only place where the validity of my brother's story was called into question and it is probably an understatement to say I took it personally. You are of course free to have doubts, and certainly should be free to express them here without expletives hurled at you. I am truly sorry to both @Reeko @King1 and anybody else I offended. So if you read my post and thought "what a strange response from the police, this must be a lie"... Go Rockets, Tari is real one! If you read the post and thought "what a strange response from the police, you should be doing (x) to advocate for your family"... Please reach out to me with any info. We're extremely frustrated with the (lack of) police response. From reaching out to local sites and forums like this, we were able to get in touch with some legal and media contacts to try and shed some light on the case. If you are or know anyone that is Austin legal/media/law enforcement (adjacent even), please also reach out. I really appreciate it. To everyone else that might just want an update, my brother was discharged from the hospital and has met with an eye specialist. He is doing well and just resting. Face is still swollen but pain has gone down a bit. The plan is to have surgery on Monday to remove remaining shrapnel.
Yes, I believe that Lady Bird Lake is correct. I think where the trail parallels/meets E Riverside Dr (vehicle that shot at him was on that road). Apparently it was starting to rain hard Thursday evening so he was jogging toward/by a main road.
Reading it is is a strange story but we know from Uvalde and several other incidences that LEO can and do behave very unprofessionally at times. This is one of those things that as someone not in Austin and reading it remotely I have no basis to doubt or disprove it happened. Certainly hope your brother recovers and definitely keep up with pressuring the police to do something.
Sorry to hear that. I have no experience with this sort of thing but if I wanted police to do more, I'd hire a lawyer to pursue it. Which costs money. I suspect the cops can tell there is no way they are catching the dude though. Random violence means no leads to follow.
Since you posted this in the DnD, I would recommend that your brother vote for better policing in the next election. I pray for a full recovery.
