How are Rafer and Lowry even mentioned in the same sentence? Do they possess the same ability to get to the foul line? Only Lowry. Do they both possess the ability to shift the game into 2nd gear when they play? Only Lowry. Do they both possess the same ability to push the ball and make easy plays for their team-mates? Only Lowry. Do they both possess the knack of making the right play at the right time when we desperately need it? Only Lowry. Think for one second will you?
Think? LOL - look admittadly they are not equal, but their poor shooting is a problem, especially in the playoffs when the games slow down and the officials stop falling for the jumping into people stuff that Lowry does. Go look up Lowry's post season stats from last year to get a better understanding of why Brooks is not just a little bit better but better by a LONG way. Seriously, it is not even close.....Kyle is a great spark off the bench, but that is pretty much it. DD
Brooks is a finisher, not a facilitator. He must play with facilitators. Lowry is a facilitator. He must play with finishers. Next year we will have Yao Bosh/Amare/Scola Ariza Martin _____ Lowry should start next season. Brooks as the Jason Terry.
Man i been saying this since the beginning. Brooks is NOT a PG. He's a much quicker version of the Mike James when he was in toronto. His passing is pretty good for a SG, but is mediocre for a PG.
I don't care if Brooks has nice stats, he just needs to stop making dumb plays as our primary ball handler. Nobody would complain if he was 6'6 and scoring but when you are our PG and you can't make the crucial plays when it counts .....ugh especially when those passes are horrible.
You don't need a pure PG to win in the NBA. You win with versatility, players that can both score and pass.... Brooks is that player, he is not a true PG, but he makes some pretty good passes, and his court vision is adequate. Lowry has very good court vision and a very poor shot......he is great as a change of tempo off the bench guy. You guys bashing Brooks, when he has about 90 games as a starter, clearly are expecting too much. 19+ ppg 5+ apg Is pretty danged good, borderline all star like....give him and Martin some more time together and they will take off. Defense is where our problem lies and it is a lack of bigs guarding the bucket......we have some new ones...let's wait to see which one fills that spot. The problem on the Rockets is not the starting PG. DD
If we need shooting, Martin or Brooks can do it, sure. But if we need the right plays made, then we need Lowry. Brooks does not cut it at PG. Brooks is just a liability at making decisions. He'll get easily frustrated and lose his cool, let the other opponent into his head to make it a 1 on 1 shooting match to prove who has the bigger ego. Lowry is smarter than that. I have no idea where to find the post-season stats from last year, but from memory, Lowry didn't get many minutes in those games.
Yep, the new whipping boy! The team has guys out there with 0 offensive ability, yet, the blame goes his way. I'm pretty sure as Martin gets used to playing with the rockets, Brooks job will become easier and he will get some easy assist. People act as if TJ ford is a scrub or something.
You guys are way overreacting. Brooks is a very good point guard. Given the Rockets' recent lack of firepower with 3 players in the starting lineup who can not score the ball, he has been given a green light to score whenever he sees fit as the number 1 options. This obviously makes him look like more of a Francis or Iverson type of PG. He performed very well as a more of a pure point with Yao and Co and the coaches would constantly say that he is most effective as a point when he looks to score more, this was back when he had Yao, Tracy and Landry. He will learn to mesh better with the different lineups. A lot of the complaining going on about not feeding Scola isn't exactly fair as we were playing a brand new lineup with Battier at the 4 and Scola at the 5. Our guys were in completely different positions then they are normally. If he continues to make these kind plays next year with Yao, Martin and Scola, the argument is fair enough. But with the kind of firepower we have on the floor right now, come on. Have some perspective.
This morning you said stats are crap, and now you use 19/5 as the evidence to prove AB is " borderline all star like". Just wow. What about other stats? rebounds, steals(it's hard to imagine AB as the quickest player only gets so little steals), Ast/To ratio, defense etc.? None exist for AB. Now you blame team defense. I agree defense is the reason we lost the game, but what kind of defense AB played? Beyond pathetic I'd say. You think Lowry wouldn't help the team more on defense if he starts next year?
Calm down. Firstly was Wafer, then Artest, and the other day Landry. Brooks will come this summer and you'll have the pack.
this never happened. AB started to play better without Yao. He had the lane open for him to drive in more and score more. In other words, they don't match.
For all the people that think Lowry should start over Brooks, I give you Lowry's playoff stats from last season. Link to the stats page 19.5 minutes per game .333 FG% .250 3pt% 2.5 apg 1.3 tpg 5.3 ppg Come on, once the pressure starts and the other team slow the game down in the playoffs and the refs stop calling his jumping into people play, it really hurts the team. There is a reason that Brooks is the starter, he is flat out better overall. DD
Both Lowry and Scola are S&T candidates....in the offseason... Just saying that Lowry would probably be a more likely candidate to be traded. DD
There is no denying Lowry was not ready last playoffs. That's his first, AB's second. But Lowry made a huge progress this season at being a floor general, but not hitting his shots. AB on the other hand made a huge progress at hitting hist shots, but not running the team. When we need scoring like this season, AB should start, but when we need floor general next season, I prefer Lowry. Reimind you, I don't thinkg AB's 18 asts/22 TOs as starting PG in a 7 game series has been done before.
That is old world thinking. You don't put a label on the floor and say...ok, you are a PG this is what you do.... There are MANY ways to win in the NBA, some with scoring PGs...some with pass first ones....tons of ways. Derek Fisher was the starting PG on last year's championship team. Tony Parker has 3 championships as a scoring PG..... There is more than one way to win, and the people that are whining about Brooks not being a true PG are missing the way the game is played now.... We don't need John Stockton to win, and in fact, John Stockton...NEVER WON. DD
We thought Landry was untradeable, but we were wrong. AB isn't untradeable now that we have Martin. Assuming performs up to par and meshes well with Lowry, we could see AB + Scola + pick packaged off to get a legit PF. Spend some cash to bring Llull over finally, and we have a decent set-up.
