That is not true. Yao was averaging 25+ points when Tmac had a back injury. JVG's team made a collective effort to get Yao the ball, that included Rafer, who didn't throw bounce passes to Yao. Tmac was the best at getting Yao the ball when he wanted to, though. Anyway, passing to Yao isn't as big an issue as how to make the unit more complted and more balanced, and it doesn't have a lot to do with who's better between AB/Lowry. Let's see how it plays out next season.
If the guy is of all star quality, he will adjust, but lowry isnt. I have more examples of adelman having a pg like brooks( porter, bibby) than a pg who needed the ball to be effective and cant shoot. Now if you want to compare lowry to webber or drexler, go ahead. As stated earlier and not you ibm, but others always go back to "what happens when yao get back?" argument. One poster has stated whn yao gets back and since we have a elite shooting sg, we should bench brooks for balance. So, yao comes back an d averages 16ppg and martin averages 17ppg, isnt that just subtracting from the lineup. I mean, wouldn't it bet better to have 3 guys starting that can get 17pts and make the defense focus more on all 3 vs having a guy like lowry whom the defense will sag off of all the time?
Why do you ask questions to which you already know the answers?? So Leeb, you think we will see the Rocks go back to a grind it out game or will they pick and choose their spots to run even with Yao on the floor? Ya know, kinda how the Showtime Lakers ran while Kareem crossed midcourt maybe half the time? Personally I think that would be a solid strategy for the Rockets quick offense and one that Rick may go to. BTW, Adelman did have a Lowry type in his offense. His name was Rafer Alston. Only difference is Alston wasnt as good at getting to the FT line.
I can see that in theory but not in reality... It was posted on another thread about not seeing Yao being a pure Defensive and Rebounding type of player.. that he would want to be more involved with the Offense..
It's not as simple as that. You only considered scoring, but even scoring is not 17+17+17. The possession will be there, it's just somebody else took AB's shots. For example, With Yao/Martin/AB, Yao takes 12 shots, Martin 16, AB 16 Scola 10, you might score 17/17/17 for 51 points. Without AB, somebody else took the shots, Yao 15, Martin 20, Scola 12, other players take 8 more shots, you may score 49-50 points. The offense may suffer 1 or 2 points assuming AB is the 3rd most efficient scoerer tied with Scola. Now comes in the defense, AB/Martin/Scola's defense could simply give up 3 more points than Lowry/Martin/Scola, that doesn't include Lowry's overall hustle/offensive rebounds etc. So on offense/defense alone, you gain 1 point on offense, but lose 3 points on defense, it's bad for the team overall. It's just an assumption, how many points is unknown, but it pays to have a balanced team more than have an offense only team. There is only one ball, you can have 5 scorers, but still only same number of posses ions. The team's overall offensive gain may not offset the overall defensive loss.
Not at all, Shane made the entry passes then....Rafer rarely made entry passes to Yao, he did make some, about the same amount as Brooks does. Anyway, it is moot, Yao is not playing this year, and may never regain his form, and when he does come back he might be at the high post a lot more often. So, again, this argument is 100% a waste of server space....people wanting Lowry to start are simply wrong. Brooks is a better basketball player....and you put your best basketball players on the floor. Doesn't mean Lowry sucks, he is good too, but in an energy type of way, he would get seriously exposed as a starter....with him not being able to shoot very well. End of story. DD
No offense, but this sounds like revisionist history. Unless Battier has deceptively quick speed to the point that he can throw the entry pass and then teleport to the opposite side of the court for his corner spot up 3.
Sigh, the entry pass comes from the elbow to the corner, not from the top of the key. Rafer's job was to bring it up, and pass it off and get set for a 3pt shot, he rarely made any interior passes, which was why he did not have a high assist total. Anyway, you guys take whatever you want out of it, if you see something, fine..... Personally, I think Brooks is doing an OUTSTANDING job, for a guy that has started about 90 games total, his passes have been crisp, he is getting better at keeping his dribble alive and he is running the pick and roll with Luis better and better each time, and that wrap around to the corner and bounce pass on the baseline in the lane is sweet. Brooks is better at running the half court because he himself is a threat. Kyle Lowry, while a bulldog mentality, got the benefit of playing with Landry and Budinger, why? Because he needs those types of players....Lowry is a flawed PG, a PG that can not shoot the ball effectively ends up being exposed. Just like he was exposed in the playoffs last year, while Brooks excelled, Lowry stunk it up, becase he was scouted and teams knew he just could not shoot the ball, guess what? He still can't. I like Lowry and hate having to type those things, but it is frankly shocking that people don't see that, or think that a coach should make a decision based upon getting a better post entry pass, when he could do the same by having the WINGS pass it to the post and having a better shooter out there to give Yao spacing. Honestly, to me, it is not very smart, and honestly seems to come from a more casual perspective, IMO. DD
Brooks is doing an excellent job, the only flaw I had with him with his consistency. I dropped him on my fantasy because of that earlier in the season. He has proved me wrong.....
I'm aware of this. Nothing I've said has indicated otherwise. Sigh. Do you know what an assist is? Regardless of who makes the entry pass, if Yao takes a few dribbles to establish his rhythm (which he usually does), then that nullifies any potential assist. It's hard for Yao to complete assists unless he receives pass within a few feet of the basket. Yes, he's doing a great job. But our disagreement about him stems from his perceived future role, not his current one. You think that his potential is Tony Parker. You've given no explanation why you believe this, but you've stated it repeatedly. And the fact that you've been watching basketball since 1972 is not a valid reason. I feel that he will never have Parker's finishing ability b/c he's simply too small and cannot absorb contact well. Also, Parker looks for fast break opportunities, and even though Brooks is one of the quickest players in the league, he doesn't. However, like I've said before, I believe that Brooks has almost reached his ceiling. There are only a few aspects of his game that one can reasonably expect him to improve upon (ball-handling, ft%). As such, I think he'll ultimately have a Jason Terry type role.
Just as my opinion is of the Tony Parker level, your opinion about him reaching his ceiling is also unable to be backed up. Stale mate. DD
No, you can not, you give opinions, and make conclusions based upon your thoughts. There is nothing in your logic that is provable, it is only your assumptions about what he will grow into. He has improved immensely since taking over as the starting PG last year, IMO.....and there is data to back it up as well. But, hey, to each his own Wekko.... DD
AB too me was never a pass first point guard. Maybe he'll develop and add that to his game. He's still young. But this league is really turning into the combo guard at the point. 6-3 and up scorer, and dribbling ability. The rockets need somebody in that mold. (One can dream for Westbrook)
I agree with most of the points here, but I don't agree that you always put your best player on the floor. You put the players on the floor that gives you the best team to win. It just so happens that it usually ends up being the best players. There are some players that may not play well with other starters and you can have him come off the bench to continue to provide offense as well as change the styles. Having the best player start may not always be the best course of action and I feel that way about AB ultimately.
