How much longer are we going to give him the excuse of being "young" ? He's shown minute improvement in decision making and passing in his years so far in the league. He is who he is. A SG.
It's not like AB doesn't want to get the ball to Yao. He tried last season, but his court vision made him miss a lot passes, and his most frequent used pass-- bounce pass is something too low for Yao to catch well enough.
I'm not sure I like being called a Brooks "homer" because he is one hell of a player. What is your solution? Start Lowry? Lowry can't shoot worth ish and probably loses some of his luster starting against other NBA guards on playoff caliber teams. Don't get me wrong, I love Lowry's game, but remember he was rotting away on Memphis' bench. Aaron Brooks is borderline All-Star material, Kyle Lowry is Rafer Alston with muscles. I definitely see your point, but everything we discuss this season is meaningless minus Yao Ming. I guess I should be more optimistic about this season, but I really can't see a meaningful playoff run except by default (Paul's injury, Roy re-injury or a Camby injury, etc.). Otherwise, we'd almost definitely still have Tracy. If we get in the playoffs, its likely a first round against the Lakers or Nuggets. I rather take our 1 in 1000 chance or whatever it will be to get John Wall.
90 games started......the guy is learning.....he is getting better. Be patient and enjoy the learning curve, even great PG's have games where they make poor decisions. DD
Thank you! So many people are enamored by the fact that he can score, but he is a liability in all other aspects of the game. I hope he is packaged in a deal this summer to upgrade our roster.
AB is nowhere near being to being a great PG. So he has farther to go than someone who actually has court vision and decision making skills. Now, looking at human nature, what do most people do? They focus on what they're good at it, and try to avoid doing what they're not good at it. AB is a good scorer, but his PG skills are nauseating in the clutch.
His court vision plays a factor. Well, his court vision and the fact he can't even see above most of the players guarding him. We can't forget the fact a PG has to hit Yao's hands like a bullseye. He's not going to jump to catch a pass, much less make a quick lateral move to catch a pass like a receiver in the NFL.
EDIT: take out those "its" in the last few sentences of my previous post and it should be mostly grammatical
He had 7 assists tonight and 4 turnovers, lots of good PGs have higher turnovers because they control the ball. He also shot 55%..... Seriously the lack of basketball understanding on this board is staggering. I mean, the Pacers got hot, and we are still working in some new players..... Martin shot 3-16......and you guys blame Brooks. Outstanding lack of reasoning ! DD
I'm starting to beat a dead horse. But. Package him off with a pick for a good to great PF. Grab a starter in Lowry and Martin, with Lull as backup. Perhaps get Rubio somehow, but thats a pipe dream for sure.
Good lord....so we go back to Rafer style of PG play by starting Lowry, you know where the other team doesn't even bother guarding him because he sucks at shooting the ball. AWESOME Idea ! DD
While I disagree with you in the long-run, I do think Brooks has some mentality issues. I can tell just by his body language in the 2nd halves of games that he is trying to do too much. I could be way off base here, but I don't see Brooks having much confidence in his teammates. I think this builds to a high level of frustration after the team makes a few mistakes in a row. Brooks is a great shooter and was hot in the first half; he has his reasons (however bad they might be) to try and take over. A few times recently I have seen him conversing intensely with Andersen, Scola, and Battier after plays. I think the dude legitimately wants to win and its affecting his judgment when he should be finding other players instead of going into hyper mode.
Lowry has a lot of tools that Alston didn't. Foremost among them is being able to get to the line. Secondarily is his ability to change the tempo at will. Silly attempt to draw the argument off-base.
In fact, I didn't blame him for those TO's. Instead it was about him making very poor decisions in the crunch time.
Of course we are missing Landry, but the only new player we were working in was Kevin Martin. He missed shots, but they weren't bad shots. They were good looks. Brooks was on TJ Ford and let the dude piss on him like there was no tomorrow. TJ Ford was the reason why they won, and Brooks was a failure on the defensive end. His turnovers came in the 4th quarter when the game was close and on the line. I dont expect Brooks to be Nash, but he's making the same mistakes time and time again.
Maybe if the team played a little better defense it would not have come down to that. Or maybe if fans realized we have about 4 new bodies on the team and putting them in the lineup while losing our backup PF and our backup PG being injured is going to cause some chemistry issues. Nah, it can't be that....better to blame our borderline all star starting PG...yeah, that's the ticket. Unfricken real. DD
Poor choice of ways to prove that they're wrong. As was succinctly pointed out by DrofDunk in another thread, it was absolutely our defense that let us down tonight. Martin's shooting and Aaron's passing weren't to blame in the midst of such a pitiful display of defense. It also didn't help that Ford was playing out of his friggin mind.
You know that defensive cohesion is the first thing that goes in a system where you are trying to integrate new players. Especially when you are asking others to play out of position to cover for our backup PF...who was traded too. And sometimes other teams get hot....TJ Ford hit a crucial 3 pt basket and the guy is hitting 16% of those this season. Sometimes....it is just the other team's night. But the people blaming Brooks around here make about as much sense as selling hot tea in hell. DD
For good reason. Outside of Brooks, we are probably in the bottom quarter of the league in terms of raw offensive talent. He has Scola who is an above average PF but then beyond that it's all scrubs and a player recovering from an injury that he hasn't gotten used to yet.
