Not surprising, considering the annulment means the Catholic church says she was not a Christian and didn't understand her marriage vow. I can see how she could feel slighted.
That's not what it says in the least. It simply says that there were some conditions that did not allow God to join the marriage in His eyes. The fact that she started going to church to have a tradtional church marriage, and as soon as we said I do, she stopped going to church, and did not make any effort to have our son baptized should say something about what she wanted out of the church. She used the church to get what she wanted, and she used the church AGAIN to try to keep me from remarrying in the church.
Congrats, FT. I think the issue can be hard for non-Catholics to understand. Think of it this way. If one person gets married, but is cheating on the partner since day 1, should it be considered a valid marriage? One side clearly had no intention of having a true marriage.
Regardless, Catholics have to do this no matter the "reason." My ex remarried the day of my divorce, (without my knowledge, btw.). Gee, hmm.... Wonder which one of us was cheating?
I'm happy for you, but was this in reference to another thread? Not enough background, but then I don't usually search for other people's domestic issues. In the end, I am glad everything worked out for you and your's.
No, annullments are only granted for certain reasons. If you dont get an annullment, you can still get divorced, but you cannot get married in the Church again. It seems like FT is a serious Catholic, so this is a big deal. That has to be some kind of record.
Some may be granted for certain reasons, but mine wasn't. It was her second MDA, btw. She's on her third marriage now.
If she was granted a dissolution and she has issues maybe she showed that she was not ready for the marriage, or perhaps she lied to the tribunal. No system is perfect. Catholics do not "have" to do this. They do so if they plan to remarry in the church.
Thanks for the congratulatory words guys and gals. I really appreciate it. This is something that I have wanted for a long time. It's amazing that I started this process three years ago. I will go to see the priest tonight and find out whether or not we can receive the Eucharist again.
