You are getting paid and have a higher quality of life than anywhere else in the world with a human rights record far better than your home country. These are the facts. Democrats and Republicans both agreed on stronger borders to keep illegals out for obvious reasons. Legal quotas can only increase when illegals who jeopardize their sincerity are brought under control. It's not about empathy, its about a lawful society with economic and social implications. Dont be afraid to look in the mirror and realize this country is more than just your feelings, and targeting illegal immigration is necessary to help legal immigration. The post #1 is totally irrelevant.
Please explain what is wrong with what he said. Both Democrats and Republicans agree with him, anyone who wants to live in a lawful society. Do you have hatred for the host countries in Latin america that allow and sometimes encourage their citizens to flood America illegally?
As someone who grew up in the US, I'd believe I'm probably more American than anything else, and consider this my home country (and Texas my home state).Culturally, I have proud heritage of both Chinese and American (no different than an Italian from Jersey or Irish from Boston). I'm responding to the argument that we, as a nation, are only focusing on illegal immigrants and are not attacking legal immigrants (and how that conversation has also changed). That was previously something both side of the isle can agree upon but less so now. Edit: One more add, I saw stand up act where it resonated a ton with me. The comedian mentioned as an immigrant kid, how much we loved this country was only supassed by how much we feel the need to constantly prove it. Reminds me of growing up with the insecurities of perhaps being FOB and how much we needed to prove "hey, we're Americans too", to sometime feel the need to even marginalize the ethnic part of ourselves. Edited: last add, I agree with the OP this country is unique, and it's the diversity that makes it so.
yet, another baseless convenient claim parroted by an ignorant fool; it is as ignorant as the claim that Obama was not born in the USA
I enjoyed this story. Legal immigration is definitely the way to go. Border security will always be an important issue in America. If I immigrated to another country I would follow their rules just like your parents did.
If only that were true. Instead this administration wants to decrease legal immigration, particularly from poorer countries. That is why they attack asylum seekers and refugees. That is why they want a pure merit based immigration system. I'm for deporting illegal immigrants. I'm against sanctuary cities for the most part. I'm for jailing repeat offenders. I'm for very strong penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants, including prison time. I strongly support required use of IDVerify.
I don't understand the bolded part - you wanna attack legal immigrants? The conversation, narrative etc. is media fluff, you have to look at the facts. The aim of addressing illegal immigration has a micro and macro subtext... when ignored, it hurts everyone including the many uninformed illegals who are ripe to be exploited because they do not fall under a lawful society. It is in the interest of human rights that these issues are addressed - the story in the OP has absolutely nothing to do with what the government is enforcing in 2018.
Just gonna leave this here... She's not even an immigrant. She's a citizen and gets harassed for wearing a t-shirt from her homeland. Even more pathetic than the idiot in the video is the cop that was doing nothing. There is more and more of this kind of thing happening to people who are legal immigrants and citizens.
I appreciate your story and am glad you also are here. I appreciate the OP's story also. It is important to realize that a country and an economy does not run on PH D's alone. Sadly we are stuck in a conundrum the Repugs are only into power and the more anti-immigrant/nativist they are, the more a large percentage of the newly naturalized citizens vote for the Dems.
But she should just shut up about any harassment because ... America gave her a place to live as a citizen... according to Senator and whatever his real account might be.
Good god almighty. That is beyond outrageous. As bad as the old bigoted ignorant ******* was, the cop, if anything, was worse. He stood there and did nothing, even though the woman repeatedly asked him to intervene. Madness.
On the one hand, none of us should get worked up over one-off youtube clips -- that's not good. On the other hand, this is how things change, just in tone, without even an official change in the laws. I mean, this woman's right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness are only as good as the nearest peace officer's mood and intent.
Reminds me of my childhood growing up in Alief in the 80s. Except I was an elementary school student and smartphones weren't invented yet. Took me a few years later to learn what gook, spic and chink meant. Quite an eye opening experience to realize your an outsider in your own birth city, let alone your country. Sidenote: just because they misused the racial slur, doesn't make it any less hurtful. Even at age 10, I could understand intent from an adult.
I realized that I quoted the wrong Trader post in my reply. This was what I was responding to in my first post: My point was that legal immigration (and by extension legal immigrants) are being less welcomed as well. Hopefully that helps.
