They can detect it now ~ remember what happened to Giambi went he went off the roids. Bonds is just as ripped as ever.
The cream and clear still are not detectable by MLB steroids testing. Detecting HGH requires a blood test, which MLB does not do. Giambi admitted to using and then quit. Bonds has not done the former (publicly) and who knows if he's done the latter.
every era of baseball has had a change in variables from ballpark sizes, to the the tightness of the way balls are wound together, to the change in the pitching mound, etc. to sit here and act like this guy is the devil is flat out ridculous for that fact alone. a lot of the guys who are getting caught on steroids right now are pitchers so if you don't know who was on roids, pitchers and hitters you can't really make an argument that his numbers are invalid.
what other sport do the diminsions vary from playing field to playing field? making the records even more silly. willie mays played in one of the worst hitting parks in all of baseball for most his career, so did bagwell. how many hrs would those guys have if they batted in parks firendly to their hitting like ruth and bonds.
If your great-grandfather had put his two cents into bonds a hundred years ago, you'd probably be rich right now. NOW DOESN'T THAT MAKE YOU SAD?
I feel no pity for Barry Bonds. Yes, I was one who chanted Barry's name as he rounded the bases in Minute Maid after hitting number 70. Since then, he's been found to be a cheat and a liar, and the evidence is overwhelming. Bonds also doesn't make many friends when he says things like, "Boston is too racist for me" So I don't want to hear that it is all a media creation. However, I will definitely buy into the fact that his attitude toward the media has not helped him one bit. I believe that he made his own bed though. Additionally, I think McGwire would be booed non-stop now too if he were still playing after his cowardly responses to congress. He was obviously juicing and just didn't want to admit it. Maris and Aaron will always be the home run champs in my mind until someone breaks the record legitimately and I don't believe that is going to happen any time soon.
At least Bonds didn't garner the most boos against the Phillies. Somebody took a huge chance and wore a Terrell Owens Cowboy jersey to the game.
Good point about the timing of the allegations against McGwire. I didn't think about it. It still doesn't explain the reverence people in St. Louis have for McGwire though. I guess it's because he was a nice guy to fans and the media. It certainly isn't cause he was clean and was father of the year. Can you imagine a "Trade McGwire" sign outside Busch? So fans turned against Bonds recently (year or two), after he was linked to BALCO? I'm going to enjoy Bonds chase and not worry about this steroids stuff. Bonds is playing within the rules, no? Don't blame him for MLB's wussy drug testing program. Last night there was a sign.. Babe did it with hot dogs and beer, Aaron did it with class, ESPN didn't show the last part... probably Barry you're an ass. So disrespectful to IMO a great of the game. I could care less what he is like as a person. We will be talking about Bonds to our grandkids.
But if it is true that Bonds used steroids to break the single season HR record and pave the way to put himself in position to break the all time record, then he disrespected the game and the fans. What goes around comes around. Regardless, we will be talking about Bonds to our grandchildren. Unfortunately the conversation may go "This guy was, hands down, the greatest player of his generation, yet he didn't think that was enough and he used steroids to try and accomplish more".
the irony of all this is that it seems unarguable that steroids have wreaked havoc on his body. it is possible that they have actually shortened his carrer. impossible to know for sure, but it would have been better for baseball and the fans had he chosen to see what he could have accomplished without the juice.
that's not the point, the point is baseball's records are jacked up anyway. I used to always talk about the diminsions long before these homerun chases. its ridiculous. wilt scoring a hundred points in a game can always be compared to every era in the nba. not the same with homerun records in baseball. and like I said, even if you want to talk steroids, you don't know what pitchers were on the juice. the media has focused mostly on hitting but we've seen a lot (relatively) of pitchers being caught on the juice.
The ironic part is that Bonds (allegedly) began using in 1998 when he was jealous of the attention that McGwire ("take the 5th") and Sosa got. (who there's no steroid proof on, but who did use corked bats, and I would bet used them too) But instead of getting more popular because of roids, he became even more unpopular despite exceeding them both on the field.
I have no idea. That's more a commentary on the worthless MLB steroids policy than it is on Bonds. I doubt he's on cream/clear because I'm not sure its available anymore with the collapse of BALCO.
and the same should be said for mcgwire and sosa but they are never subject to level of criticism that bonds is. its kind of like how bartman gets the blame for the cubs losing but everyone forgets alex gonzalez was the real reason. there were guys juicing a hell of a lot longer than bonds and its just like they are overlooked.
