For MVP, actual tangible value contributed on the court should matter. Curry wins out on all the efficiency/rate statistics, but MVP shouldn't be based alone on rate. Volume should matter and it seems those stats have been shunned in the new sabremetric era for whatever reasons.
Also, I never thought I'd say this, but Harden has been the better defender this season and that's not easily measured by statistics.
the media bias towards curry is huge, curry could probably put up 5ppg the rest of the season and harden put up 40 and he'd still win But i really have no idea how the local medias see things, just the other day there was media in utah of all places calling harden the mvp, also do players opinions alter their local media, does wade saying harden should be swing the miami votes, davis in new orleans, etc? we know what espn thinks though, thats for sure
Weve seen some key blocks to win the game by Harden this year. He averaged 2 steals and 1 block at one point. The eye test tells us he is a better defender this year. But if you're a Curry fan you will believe Curry plays better defense. Like you said, no statistical evidence really. (Defensive win shares can be disregarded by most)
there is no viable defensive stat that the public has access too, which is fun But to be fair, there really isn't much of a public viable offensive one either, lol This isn't baseball where the simple stuff works, that's a 1 on 1 game
Hot off the press!! Be careful as some of you might j*zz as getting this award at the end of year might just put a nail in the coffin Reliant player of the month
What was that thing Strauss posted on ESPN about curry being something like 80% likely to win MVP? It was called something like espn forecast. What was it based on and was it just biased because he's a Gsw fan?
Isn't that a Rockets player award? It's not the same Player of the Month that the league hands out right? You might have been yanking our chains though, and I just didn't catch on.
Both just agreed on first take that steph probably WILL win, but harden SHLOUD win it Even smith said people are voting best player on best team
Are we even sure Curry is the BEST player on the Warriors? Kind of like how people say LeBron is still the best player in basketball but isn't the most valuable right now. I think Curry is just the most popular, flashy, and touches the ball more than anyone because of his position. I think Curry is the most important player but I want to say that Thompson might be the better overall player
I think Russ won player of the month. I'm not sure of their stats or wins in March, but Harden may have deserved it over him.
Good Lord, this is getting out of hand. This makes about as much sense as when some people were comparing Harden to Thompson.
Chris Broussard about to give his opinion on "His and Her's" as to who the MVP should be. I'm not a fan of first take, but I wanted to see the medias reaction to yesterdays game, and actually enjoyed what Steven A Smith and Skip had to say about Harden...still don't like those two, but still good to hear. Does anyone know if they give out the actual poll percentage as to how far ahead the MVP is to the runner up? Just curious to see if Curry does indeed win the MVP, how close Harden really was.
Get 'em Broussard! .....Not sure who that woman is...but her points for Lebron winning the MVP made no sense what so ever.
I think they do. I remember one year seeing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for MVP and they showed each person's first place votes and total votes.
The only argument for LeBron she made(actually Broussard made for her) was that he's taken a truly awful Cavs team and elevated them to the 2nd seed in the East. But you also have to take into account that the Cavs play in the East. Their record is 50-27 which is good, but imagine if they had to deal with Western Conference opponents instead. Also, LeBron took a couple weeks off to recharge which is something they conveniently omitted. Curry and Harden have each only missed a single game this season. EDIT: I checked the stats and it looks like Curry's missed 2 games. But that's still way better than LeBron or Westbrook.
Yes, that is different than the 'Player of the Month' award given by the league. The reliant player of the month is Houston based so ofcourse it'll go to a Rocket.
The voting will likely be in the stories, and it will eventually be posted at BasketballReference. http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/mvp.html
I agree. Broussard made a lot of solid points for Harden. I know, I'm biased, but everything he said was true. My favorite point he made, was the fact that even if we had a healthy Dwight Howard all season, getting the number two seed in the west would be an amazing accomplishment, but to do it with out him, would have been very impressive.
