MVP in the regular season is very different from MVP in a series. On a regular season you got to see which one is the most important. On a series you gotta see who brings it night in night out. Yao was great from time to time, but Scola kept us alive in the series when Yao didn“t show. Therefore my vote goes to Scola, i think if our coach went to him more, he could have won us game 5.
Yao Ming scored total of TWO points less than Scola did, but grabbed 24 more rebounds, blocked 4 more times, played 2.6 more minutes, and committed 6 less fouls, while being fronted and/or double teamed by two seven footers, as the anchor of defense and offense. Some of you claimed that Scola should be the MVP, and it shouldn't even be close. I wonder why? Because that 2 more points in 6 games, or Yao should be taken as granted as usual? Scola is a very good player, and I love him. He's an important piece of the Houston Rockets, no doubt about it. But he's more valuable than Yao in the series? Come on, he got those open shots BECAUSE OF Yao. It's great that he wasn't gun-shy, and stood up to the challenge, but to claim he's more valuable, while Yao did a whole lot more defensively, and offensively only scored 2 less points, and attracted defense to ENABLE those shots for Scola? You got to be kidding me. To tell you the truth, I would buy the Battier vote much more than the Scola one. Why? Shane is the true leader and captain of the team, and he stood up big.
For real, this is very funnie that now some user are trying to lure some scola votes to Battier. Battier was right what he should be, Scola was more than what he should be, and Yao was what he usually is, Scola stepped up his game, and if he was not being ignored on our offense for stretches the series would have ended in game 5. But really, can someone not voting Scola justify their votes without bashing Scola?
Yao by a landslide. He commanded the double and triple teams. Changed others shots. Established strond inside defense and presence Game 1 turned out to be the most important of the series and Yao dominated. If it wouldn't have been for his game 1 heroics we would have probably lost the series. Scola was solid but not the MVP. MVP should be the player if we were without would have resulted in series loss.
Scola should win this in a landslide. The only way he doesn't is if another players fans keep it close. Scola was da man!
As opposed to you saying Yao didn't show up sometimes? There is a reason Morey thought Yao was our MVP ... he was the foundation for everything. Morey sees everything more objectively while we the fans have our favorites for different reasons. Stealing votes? People take these poll questions entirely too seriously. There is nothing wrong with votes going to Lowry or Battier or Chuck instead of Scola or Yao. I can't think of anyone who played that didn't make an imprint on the series.
And if you are only impressed by numbers...who knows how many points Yao would have scored in game 1 if he played the whole game. If he would have dropped 40 on portland everyone would be feeling differently I think. Also want to add - Scola was MVP of a game or two...argue even fro Battier...maybe a game for Artest. But when you ask for series MVP - Yao.
Yao is a better player than Scola, but when Yao was shutdown by the other team for one reason or another we needed someone to hit open shots and create offense...Scola was HUGE in his part. Not to mention rebounding, hustle plays, and some solid D...Scola was consistently the steady force for us throughout the series...he's the MVP to me.
When Rockets finally passed the first round of playoff in 12 years, way to label people with different opinion of you as another players only fans. What's even funnier, it was from a poster with more than 20 thousand posts. Landslide? How so? Because Scola scored 2 more points than Yao in 6 games, but Yao's 24 more rebounds are just useless, or that's mis-counted by Yao Only Fans? Some here kept talking how Yao didn't play well in every single game, while the ONLY real subpar game from Yao was game 2. He didn't get done at neither end, because of Blazers adjustment. Other than that, which game he didn't let his presence felt for both teams? In the game 3 win, he only scored 7 points, but he rebounded well and blocked and altered shots, played a huge role defensively. Some kept talking how Scola stepped up his game every single night. It's just a wishful thinking than reality. To paint his 9 points 4 rebound 42% shooting in game 1, and 12 points 5 rebounds and 44% shooting in game 5, as MVP like, has hypocrisy written all over it. They are both very important for this great milestone of the Rockets team. But to call people give Yao - the foundation of this team, more props, as certain player only fans, you really just prove yourself again and again, as always, to be one of the biggest hater.
shane battier said numerous times throughout the season that scola was the team's regular season MVP also he's been our most consistent force this year, night in and night out.
The funniest thing is that other teams' fans all think Yao is the MVP of that series. However, Yao didn't get appericiation from the rockets fans. Maybe, it is the time for him to leave.
yao is appreciated, don't get people wrong. but the best players are always double teamed. i'm sure if you ask a poll of the general fans, they would say joe johnson is the MVP of his team in that series: he drew double/triple teams, defended... but he's not. but yao did play well. the series victory was more of a team victory than anything. there shouldn't be an MVP. everybody contributed to this victory, from scola to yao to wafer and to lowry.
Wow, you must be a good friend of shawn marion. Ginobili once said, "getting recognition must come only from my on court performace and not from myself being latin american or for popping me up" I think Yao agrees more with Ginobili than with you.
i did. i thought scola's impact was major. remember, he produced offensively while guarding portland's best post player and played aldridge well. that was basically "a wash."
So, you think Yao's performance on the court is not good enough?! I don't get what you talk about. BTW, Manu is my favorite player, and I know his fans love him not only because of his performance on the court, but his great personality off the court.
