I've been thinking the same thing. I hope the Rockets can pull off the Mutombo trade, and then sign either "Boom-Boom" or Steven Hunter to be that one extra big body on the team. With Yao's foul and fatigue problems, and Deke's age it would be nice to have a decent young guy to be able to come in and throw his body around.

Actually, I would love to trade

MoT and Pike for Mutombo and Eddie Robinson, and then sign Keon Clark. THAT would be perfect.

    Yao/Mutombo/Clark
    Howard/Clark/Spoon
    JJ/Boki/Eddie Robinson
    T-Mac/Sura
    Ward/Sura/Lue

To have Sura and Clark off the bench is huge - both of them bring tremendous energy.

Has there been any other word (from non-BBS) on status of Mutombo deal and/or Clark to Houston (or anywhere)?

That's what I was waiting to hear. Maybe I wass reading too much into it, buit all of the analysis I heard made it seem like it was almost a done deal. I ws expecting something to be done by the first of the week. What is the hold up?

i am not sure how you guys may think about this but what about desagnia diop of the cavs? he should be a fa next year and an injury derailed him his rookie season and then he never really got a fair shot at playing otherwise. he has no real offensive skills but from what I've read and seen during the summer leagues he has participated in, he is a natural shot blocker and rebounder. Given that he was a high school project for the cavs and probably had a lot of pressure on him would he be worth a shot? he probably will not get any large contract from any team and probably can be had relatively cheap and be our shot blocker and rebounder for the future off the bench.

Bring them both in. Try starting Clark at 4, and have him try to play Cato's role of last year. He's a bit more mobile then Cato and who knows, this just may work out, with Mutombo coming off the bench to back up 5, and T-mac hopefully reaching his potential of a "lock-down" defender, this team could be scary defensively. Go for it.

In my experience, things usually quiet down right before something happens as the interested parties clam up during negotiations.

At least, I hope that is what is happening.

Is there anything anyone has heard about either man coming to Houston in any form?

I heard Knicks were considering bringing KC to NY, but nothing else on either.

I think will wait until the smoke clears before we get someone. Then we'll be parading out the man we've had our eye on all along - Two Sandwiches.

What about Jake Tsakalidis? Isn't he still a free agent?

i´m still wondering why the rockets didn´t retire his number....

btw: if i had to chose between deke and clark, i´d take deke...

mogrod,Jake Tsakalidis is a Restricted Free Agent. The Grizzlies will probably match anything the Rockets offer him.

I see contributions from either as the primary back-up center to Yao (about 15 MPG). They both provide a defensive presence in their own way. Keon also is very athletic (big plus), Deke is much more of a known quantity as a team oriented guy (big plus).

As a FA, we can only offer Clark 3.3 mil over two years (1.6 exemption), so that is a good deal.

Mutumbo we could only get via a TE we otherwise probably will not use.

Thus I think both would be fine signings and would round out the team very well.

Sane, I like your ideas. The team would look pretty good but you forgot to add Gaines and Griffin.

why you want to pay ERob big$ only to sit on our bench behind JJ and Boki? Taylor definely is more useful than ERob. I though all we need to give up for Deke is Pike+change?
