You get paid for what you did in the past, and he started as center for half the season and helped out plenty in the 22 game winning streak. That is what he wants to get paid for this year. I don't blame him either. If he had sat on the bench the whole season, fine, but he gave it up last year for the team at the vet min.

Les and the luxury tax can afford Deke something more than the min. with little problems. He will make out this year now that Ron ron is on the team. We need Deke, IMO. We have no other center on the team, their PF's. Don't fool yourself, when the playoffs come none of our PF's will suffice as centers in the playoffs. They didn't last year and they won't next year.

Agreed. A big "if". If Yao is 100% we might be able to get by with Scola or Landry/ Dorsey for a few mintues.

The season before last (2007) he played much better, even turned back the clock with a 20+ rebound game, and got vets minimum for the 2008 season. His 2008 wasnt as good as 2007 and he wants more money?

Good possibility he'll be rooting the team on with its new backup center from his living room if he asks for significantly more.

We need to just sign Deke, if Yao is injured who plays at center? Some midgit power forward? I dont think so, Morey just needs to just take 3 million dollars and give it to both Landry and Mutombo.

Deke is worth some quality minutes. He can give you some great defense in 8 minutes as well as help you pick up a few rebounds.

We need to have Mutombo. He might not be as important on the court anymore, but he's extremely important to our cohesive locker room and team chemistry, which we'll be valuing even more since Artest's arrival. Even if it means that we'll have to break a part of the MLE to sign him, I'll be for it.

P.S. Wait till Ron Ron tries to self-destruct before Mount Mutombo.

    Get Deke ASAP!
If 2 years of Yao going down didn't convince you, what it takes then.
He needs to play 15 min a game.

    I like that.

Do Rockets have Birds right for Deke? But even if we do, I don't think Deke is worth much more than the Vet Min. Than again, I don't think Landry is worth more than Deke for the team and the organization as a whole, especially considering the stuff Buddy Baker is doing.

Considering the potentials of Rockets this season with the possible addition of Artest, I doubt that Deke won't resign.

Man this is so frekin obvious that even Bush should have known it.
Dikembe is gonna donate half his salary anyway, why not make Les donate it on his behalf and accept the vet's minimum.

    WHY NOT?

So, at the end of his career, when he claimed he basically acted like he was going to put money ahead of a championship he basically tells the Rockets, after they make championship moves, that he wants more money. Considering signing Mutombo to more money would cost us a chance to re-sign Landry I guess we'll see Mutombo in a new uniform.

"Ron Ron" hasn't "self-destructed" since the Pacers/Pistons fight. Artest has been fine and all of his teammates on the Pacers, Kings and Bulls have said that guy is a great teammate. And team chemistry was fine on those teams, you believe the media to much.

Thing is, Mutombo's market value is definitely above the vet's minimum.

I think CH said the same thing. He's up there in age, and he can't give you heavy minutes, but the minutes he does give you is quality, and especially more amazing given his age.

I firmly believe at 40, he's better than half the centers in the league, and is undoubtedly one of the top few defensive centers. And you can't ask for much more from a back-up.

2 million a year wouldn't be too much for his services and that leaves us with about 3.78 million for Carl Landry, which is just about fair value for him on a 3 year deal.

we have to remember we still have to get landry's contract, we STILL have to sign dorsey, which i being held up by landry. And then mutumbo and we have about 5.6 mil. to play around with!! How do we divide it all!

This will get done. The $$$ difference is a pittance (<1M) considering we are talking about a 1 year deal. I liked that story about Yao showing up in sweats to meet Deke and Deke telling him it wasn't appropriate and Yao changing his clothes. We need Deke on the team for that finger wag and his professionalism.
